I was given a bunch of .22 FMJ bullets that have been coated with moly.
I'd like to remove the moly.
Any suggestions?????

I have molied many thousand bullets but never removed any. I would think putting them in a tumbler with corn cob media shuld do the trick.
I hear 625 degrees in a pot will remove that coating just fine
you could also just Shoot it. that tends to work real well to.
but i think a read somewhere that a bath in Acetone might do the trick....
Just go to the dollar store a buy a small bottle of fingernail polish, drop them in there and let it soak over night. see what happens.
How many? Any other details? I might make a trade for uncoated bullets.
I got some "J" bullets that someone molied. I tumbled them for 2 sessions of about 4 hrs. each time - only made the moly a lighter color. I`ve heard about the acetone soak then tumble in clean corn cob media, I`ll have to try that method and see.Robert
Why do we need to remove it?
Some "J" bullet shooters like their bullets coated with this stuff, and others (like me) don`t like the stuff going down a rifle barrel of mine. It`s hard enough work getting copper and other jacket metals out of a bore before using lead boolets let alone a coating of this moly to be scrubbed out.Robert
Molybdenum disulfide is an excellent lubricant and should not need to be scrubbed out of your barrel. Unlike lead and copper buildups, it will not increase drag or decrease the barrel bore. If anything, it will decrease friction and make your boolits fly even faster!
It would be only molecules thick if in your barrel.
I would not worry about removing it unless you are wanting to powder coat them.
