how thick is the coating when cured? I would like to know how much fatter it makes the bullets

Does electrostatic spray and dry tumble result in same added thickness?

    thanks

    Between .0015 and .003
    .0015 to.002 being most common.
Spraying gives a smoother slick coat.

    Smoke.
Thanks for the quick response. I am a complete newb with this powder coat stuff. I am stuck in the days of wax lubes.

I have shot some of Donnie Miculeks bullets that I got from a prize table. That's a different coating but it got me interested in the process.

If if you have time can you point me to instructions and equipment for spraying? I assume I can make an improvised spray booth with plastic to catch the overspray. I don't have a compressor but can get one if needed. What type guns are people using to spray.

Are re there particular colors that work better?

As as soon as I get this figured out I will order some powder from you.

    Thanks again!
    john

I'm just a DA I guess, but, what does this process do besides coat the bullets? Does it take the place of lubing them? Just don't quite understand the purpose I guess. I'm ignorant about powder coating................Simple explanation will be appreciated.

Coats the bullets and takes the place of lubing them with grease/wax lubes.

Benefits: Can be leading free (not a real con because you can do the same with regular lube)
    Easy handling
    Clean handling
Don't **** up your reloading dies, tools, gun with lube

    Downsides: Slow
Need an oven and it stinks

Thanks...............I figured it was replacing the lube. They look interesting too!

It does replace the lube. The PC and HI-TEK acts more like a plating. I use jacketed data with all my coated bullets. Of course I did that with regular lubed bullets as well, but that's just me.

Coating is a good process, and relatively cheap. I do it because I like how my dies and guns aren't gunked up by grease lube residue.

I'm retired, so the time element isn't that much of a "con" and believe me, you can tell pretty quickly if your dies are gunked up by simply measuring the OAL. Usually get a change after less than 100 rounds. As far as the smell; I have a horse, enough said.

When I bake, I move the oven to the open end of the garage. That keeps the smell out of the garage for the most part. Just saying on the time part. In the amount of time it takes me to coat, place on mesh, bake, and then size I could have sized a whole mess load of bullets on a regular lubesizer and a whole mess load more on a star.
