    A very good life.

My grandmother of 91 years, and almost a month passed off this mortal coil this morning at around 8:00.
She had been struck hard with Alzheimer's, a truly miserable affliction in my mind.
My parents cared for her in their home for the last few years. My mom did a superb job with the nurses making her comfortable till the end.
I stayed over there last night until 11:00. Finally my mom and Dad sent me and the wife home, as it was clear Granny still wasn't ready to go.
Truely a strong woman till the end, at the advisement of the nurses, we had the Last Rites read to her,,,,last Friday. Yup, as usual, she was strong and stubborn all the way, defying even the nurses and Dr's who thought last Friday was the end.
She is survived by all of her children, which includes my dad, his brother and their two sisters.
She helped raise us boys, help my dad run his business, and helped my grandfather manage his farm while he worked at the steel mill.
She will be missed, she was basically a second mother to me.

I'm sorry for your loss. My thoughts are with you and your family these coming days. They are difficult but will pass. The title of the thread is very telling. Enjoy that she did indeed have a good life as witnessed by your words.

Those ladies are special people, aren't they. Mine (1893-1992) was a complete hoot. On her 95th B'day, we kept pace with Vodka tonics until I just about slid under the table. She remained prim and proper (with a mischievous sense of humor) and was entirely capable of self-locomotion.

She had a Stutz "Bearcat" when Providence, RI had two stop lights, and drove around with a German Shepard in the passenger seat.

My sincerest condolences to you for your very great loss. That was a wonderful generation.

I never knew my grandparents. I am sorry to hear that you lost yours but what a long life indeed I hope that your family finds comfort in having known here and that you will one day see her again.

I feel deeply for you. My condolences also.
My mother passed yesterday. She had a stroke and in the care facility a person had her put on compression stockings. Four days later, her feet turned black. She was paralized and no one helped her remove them.
Her death then came quickly. Little suffering.
We were not close. Sad, but I miss her in a way. I am the last of the bloodline, no great loss there for sure.
My stepfather owes me a great deal of cash, but I figuire that is or will be gone soon.
When I hear of someone who misses their parent, I am enheartened. I never had that. I wanted it, but never got it.
To all, my heart goes out with sadness.
Have peace, on the third day he was risen.

We had the mass and the funeral for her today. She is now beside my grandpa who we lost last January(2013) and near to my brother who we said goodbye to back in 08'.
A good service, nice readings by my cousins. Lots of momentos were brought out, photos and the like. A tough day, but a good one.
