    Question 30/30 Cast Loads

Looking for suggestion on the 30/30 with Lee 150 gr cast GC bullets in Win 94 24" barrel. I have tried IMR 4895 and IMR 3031 in 20 to 23 gr charges and none seems to want to group. I also tried 2400 with worse results. I am not using any filler and would like to avoid that. Bullets are WW+2% Tin sized .310 seated just short of a forced closing of the Win 94 lever.

You just haven't taken the load far enough. Try 25 grains of 4895 and work up towards 26.5 and you should find the sweet spot. I have had great luck with this load in every 30-30 I have tried it in. i killed my first cast bullet deer using the Lee 150 and 25.5 grains of 4895. Also try sizing at .310 if your rifle will chamber them.

Try 27grs. RE7. My octagon bbl is not tapered, but shoots so well it's been banned from local "Cowboy Silohuette" competitions. That's w/in 10% of Alliant's max recommendations, so approach cautiously. Yep, I get rather short case life, but dang is it fun to hit the 500m gong repeatedly

I've got that Lee 150FN mold and I used 4227 for decent accuracy instead of #2400. But I also had good results with 4064 or 4320. I tried the 3031 and 4895 but can't remember hitting the right combination. Most of my Lee bullets were tumble lubed and gc'ed but I've bought a lubisizer since then. I'm going to get the RCBS 150FN mold, I think, but am not sure what it will weigh when lubed and gc'ed. My RCBS 180FN mold weighs a little over 190grns lubed and checked.

    .30-30 loads

I am using IMR4227, 18gr, with the Lee 1602R gc, 1700fps, good accuracy, and the same bullet, water dropped at BHN 20, with 34 gr IMR 4064, 2180fps.
No leading and shoots fine in my '99, where I do not have to worry about the pointed nose.

    new to casting

hello, I want to try 4064 with the 150 grain cast bullet, wondering what loads to use, also wondering about the lee sizeing die that screws into a regular press and you coat the bullets with liquid alox and than press upward through the die, does this lubricant interfere with bullet seating in the case. thanks fred

Anyone have luck loading Ramshot TAC in the 30-30 ? I am trying to work up a load for CLA silhouette. Other powders I have are Trail Boss and Unique.

First make sure your barrel is not leaded.

I use 8 gr of Trail Boss with my RCBS 150gr Plain Base Cowboy bullet and "soft" SPG lube (1100fps). NEXT I will try bulky Tin Star for greater velocity.

Are you seating gas checks square without deforming bullet? This can be tricky.

Welcome, texascow. I see we have a new winner for "oldest zombie thread". I like the Lee Tumble-Lube system, have had no problems with it seating or otherwise. I like a powder a bit faster than 4064 in the 30-30. For plinking I enjoy 16grs 2400 but 3031 and Rx7 give good results too.

    30-30

hello, I am interested in a hunting load, have the 30-30 xlr marlin, 24 in. barrel, only reason I suggested 4064 is because it is a killer in the 220swift, and my 270. thanks for the reply

I killed a few deer with the equivalent of the RCBS 180 flatnose and RE-7 out of a Marlin CB with a 24" barrel. One at 140 paces from my tree. It was laoded to about 2000 fps. As for the 150 I used them with the Dupont bulk powder 4859? at about 1600 and they were great plinkers. For deer I just believe in heavy bullets.

I have killed a few deer with a model 55 Winchester 30-30 with a 110 grain hollow point, jacketed bullet, doesn't take much to kill our little texas whitetail

wondering if the pewter on ebay is clean enough tin to use in bullet casting there are some good deals, or is it best just to buy from roto metals

For big whitetail hunting, what cast bullet and what powder? Lyman 49 shows loads for 170 and 173. Is this as large as I can go? thanks.
