Need reccomendations on a .434-435 mold

Finally got around to checking the bore on my .44 mag rifle since I couldn't get lee's .429 or .430 boolits to shoot accurately and it's measuring .433. I figure I can get a .434 or .435 mold and size accordingly. I'd like a 240 grn semi wadcutter/flatnose style and would prefer a flat base (no GC) but will consider GC molds as well. Anyone have any recommendations?

Some group buys have been designed to shoot specifically in rifles such as yours. I have one such mould 265g.
NOE has a 235g RF in .434 in stock.

.433? How are you measuring? Doesn't sound right. As to molds check out NOE site http://noebulletmolds.com/NV/index.p...n08cfl5l9q0mt4, they show some .434 molds.

PM Miha at MP Molds (Vendor Sponsor at the bottom of the main page) too and ask what he has. I know the #503 and the 432640 both ran at .434" and typically that means .435" for sizing. He often comes up with extra molds between group buys.

    Need more info:
what kind of slug did you use to slug the bore ? dead soft lead is my choice.
How did you measure it ? Mic or caliper ?
.433 is a bit on the big side.
Not accurate ? how much not accurate ? how many different loads were shot and what distance ?
was the barrel cleaned well of all Copper first ?
Did you get any leading ?

Yes I'm getting leading, yes the bore was cleaned, groups were shot at 25 yds off the bench. The smallest group was 5" the largest was 18" with the bullets keyholing. The bore was measured with 2 different calipers in the grooves not slugged. I've tried at least 20 different loadings with 3 different powders, 3 different bullets sized .429 and .430. This rifle will shoot through the same hole at 25 yds with factory WWB 240 JSP. Best load was 22.8 grains of W296 with a LEE 240 SWC TL they are pushing around 1600 fps at about a 5" group.

you didn't type it out but I'm guessing you bought a TAURUS made rossi.
they are noted for 433 barrels in the 44 and 454 in the 45's, they also like to make it so you can only shoot 125's in a 357.

I have a Rossi made Rossi (44 spl revolver model 720).
YEP grooves slug out at .433 and throats are .4335 to .4340

I have this NOE mold 434421 245Gr. SWC and works great in that gun...Boolits drop a tad over .434 with a soft range scrap alloy (about 8 BHN)

The rifle is a Rossi R44B single shot I bought back when CDNN was closing them out when they quit making them. Dumbest thing they ever did, it is the handiest little single shot rifle they made and one of the best shooting .44's I've shot.

Thanks, I like the looks of that boolit, may have to try one will it work with the 6 cavity LEE handles? I have a few sets kicking around already.

Is Marlin making barrels for Rossi?

Actually, now that Remington is making barrels for Marlins, the paradigm has changed... I worked over a M94 Marlin in .357 (action job and a good cleaning) that had a REP stamp on the barrel and its bore/groove measurements where pretty close to a typical handgun.

I'll never forget the first time I chambered a 444 cartridge with a .434" boolit and it slipped in like an empty, freshly resized case. Moral of story... there are SAAMI 44's out there and then there are 44's that should be stamped 11mm's.
