    Success! NOE 311331 in 7.62x54r

My M28-76 Mosin has given me fits with a really long throat with some helpful replies here: http://castboolits.gunloads.com/show...light=decipher . I have been plinking with a very accurate Lyman 311334 load with 11gr of Unique, but bumping up the .299" nose to .301" while sizing is a pain. It gave me the trigger time to get used to the scope's odd reticle, it is like looking through a 4x magnified peep sight and I actually like it now. NOE's 311331 looked like it would fill it up, plus I picked up a Lyman 311466 that was similar(but lighter) to the recommended design in that thread. All were cast at 14 BHN except the ones loaded with 5744(20 BHN), and used TAC1 lube with a light tumble in 45/45/10 on that long nosed 311331. The harder alloy dropped 20gr lighter and .003" bigger in the bands and on the nose.

First up was the 311466, and the bottom target's 13.5gr of Unique made me pretty happy:

I then shot the my 311331 Unique loads, and the top target 12gr load brought a grin to my face:

Would 2400 work well? Yep, the top target's 18gr is definitely a contender:

Finally, could I speed it up a little? I hope so with the top target's 27gr 5744 load:

I think I found the design for this rifle, and next up is load them all back up to test around those loads and head to the 100 yard range with the chronograph. Hopefully with a bit less wind.

I'm also shooting the NOE 311331.

I have a mold that throws a plain base bullet along with gas checked versions also.

I have really enjoyed shooting the plain base 331'.

It is a REAL SHOOTER in my 30-06 rifles.

My shooting friend Bryan and I loaded 20 rounds up for his rifle and fired them in 10 shot groups at 50 yards. He fired 10 rounds , I fired the same load with 10 rounds at 50 yards also.

WOW ! ! We were both impressed , Needless to say that Bryan will be loading much more of this combination in the coming weeks.

    Here is the plain base 311331 sized .311" and lubed with Ben's Red and rolled in 45 - 45- 10 , IT IS A SHOOTER ! !

Ben, I always like seeing your PB targets. I am not sure I want to plain base a cavity on my mold, or get an extra mold and leave this one alone. Either way, I want to try it out with this rifle.

I didn't mention it, but I've also shot the 331' with a gas check.
    It is equally deadly accurate.

I'm jealous. You and Brian get to have all the fun and I am stuck at work trying to thrash out ignorance. I think I'm losing. Gotta take another sick day.

You can miss fast & you can miss a lot, but only hits count.

I have an old Ideal 308334 that is similar. Mine is a single cavity, drops them with .299 noses. To my surprise they shoot good. There was a guy shooting CBA matches with a 1903a3 and this same 308334 and winning. I think I'll check out the NOE molds.

Wow.... thanks Ben, you definitely helped me answer my own question as to whether or not I should buy the 8lbs of American Select at my LGS... can't wait to work with that stuff,
