I was wondering if anyone had much luck using the black moly grease in a lube recipe. I shot some moly lubes in the past and liked them but wanted to make my own. I think part of it is how good the black lube looks on a shiny boolit.

Ill keep my guns money and freedom you keep the CHANGE!!!
make bens red and sub in moly chassis grease, up the b-wax by another 5% and you should be good to go.
Glenn Fryxell (LASC) says his favorite lube is equal parts Stabil MolyGraph grease and beeswax.
I mixed up a batch and have lubed some handgun boolets with it but I haven't shot any of them yet.

Is there any particular brand of grease you would recommend?

I use Wally world Moly- lithium grease & beeswax 50-50 Works better for me than RCBS, Lee, or Lyman. It's easy to make & it's CHEEP.
The 3 people a man must be able to trust completely are his gunsmith his doctor & his preacher ..,his gunsmith for his short term health ,his doctor for long term health ,and his preacher incase one of the others mess up.
I am too lazy to make my own, I use Lyman's

Is the wally world moly a black moly or like a white lithium

moly is black from the ground.
if you want the slightly thicker stuff get the tube grease it's number2 the assembly grease is closer to a number 1, if you want a #2.5 get the wheel bearing grease it has a higher drop point though so takes more heat to melt.
if you want it even closer to bens red add some more of the stp it contains the same paratack that the red and tacky contains and will make up for it not being in the grease.
I wouldn't add more though as paratack can cause some flinging issues in the colder weather [it tends to make the lube come off in uneven chunks]
I think you and I are the only two people on this forum who like the Lyman Super Moly. It has some downsides in that its not cheap and it can get crumbly and dry out if you store lubed exposed boolets, but I have been really happy with it for fast rifle loads.
I think the main reason I like it is because it smells like greasepaint and it reminds me of those cheap Halloween costumes from when I was a kid.

Run, as happy as I've been with the Red, I find this notion of a "Ben's Black" rather intriguing.
In less than 139 forum pages, tell us - how is moly faring in The Quest?
WWJMBD?
In the Land of Oz, we cast with wheel weight and 2% Tin, Man.
It taint. Not liked. Gear had something nasty end up in one of his barrels from it. Fouling that was near to impossible to get out.
We need somebody/something to keep the government (cops and bureaucrats too) HONEST (by non government oversight).
Every "freedom" (latitude) given to government is a loophole in the rule of law. Every loophole in the rule of law is another hole in our freedom. When they even obey the law that is. Too often government seems to feel itself above the law.
We forgot to take out the trash in 2012, but 2016 was a charm! YESSS!
Kinda what I figured, Gear having been on the anti-moly side of the fence pretty much since day one.
I have to wonder what the mechanism that leads to moly fouling actually is. Fryxell seems to love the stuff in his grease/wax base, and I never had cause to dislike it when Neco-plating it dry/carnauba onto jacketed, yet others consider it the antichrist. Something keeps it loose in one setting yet irons it on in another.
Gotta think it's not the moly but something in whatever is carrying it. . .or possibly some correlation between stainless and carbon steel barrels?

So what's the problems with it?

What Geargnasher says makes sense to me.
What does he say?

RE: Geargnasher, I am not going to attempt to summarize his posts on the subject. After spending many hours reading lube threads, it is apparent he knows his stuff. He is working on a PhD level and I'm just trying to figure it out. Hopefully he will post here.
