    MiHec .223 boolit loads?

I just casted my first batch from the 62 grain .223 mould. They look perfect, and drop at .226. I ordered a .225 sizer die and top punch. Just wondering if anyone has found a suitable load for these with Ramshot TAC? I'm going to shoot them with an AR 15 carbine with 1/9 twist.

I got in a group buy for one of these. It was started last March. Hope it moves soon. Sounds like a great mold. Don't know about a load though.

I use a .2265 sizer for said boolitz, I got in on the first group buy for this mold and have cast over 15k of them. I load them at 21.5 of my lots of WC844 for 16" uppers 1x9s, and 22.5 of same powder for one of my rifle length uppers that has a heavy BC. 21.5 works great in my 223 bolt gun also. 21.5 + 2350 FPS in my 16" anb 2530 in 20' barrels. No ramshot info for me either but my best groups are with Benchmark at just over 2300fps.

Where did you get that sizer made? I would like to have a couple made for my 4500. Lyman only makes a .225 that i have seen.

I believe there is 3 sources of custom sizer right her as members of this forum. Lathsmith, Buckshot, and the TheProfesser when he regains health.

My H&I die started life as a store bought lyman .225, from evilbay, it only takes a little time to hone it out to .2265. my first Mihec 65gr Nato mold drops at .2265 with my WW alloy so no need to have a larger sizer for it. My .2265 $tar die came from lathsmith .

I just spoke with a tech at Ramshot. He gave me a starting load of 22.5 grains of Ramshot Tac.

I've not shot any cast boolits yet in my bolt .223, but i use 24gr of Ramshot TAC for my j-word bullets in 55 gr and love it. (I started with 26 gr but tamed it to 24 gr and get better groups. I think you are good to start there (22.5) and see what happens. What are you using for gas checks?

    cricco:
All the tech on the phone did was to give you the listed start load for a 62 grain bullet right out of the Ramshot load data book.
    " TAC 62 BRG HP 22.0 2,775. "

There's that whole SEE thing but I'd not get to nervous about it. I think you'll be coming down from that charge weight to get velocity down. One of my old Lyman books has WW748 ball powder starting at 19.8 grains under a 54 grain bullet. Using a CCI 450 primer to light it.

    btw:
CCI 450 is small rifle magnum. I've found it best to use a magnum primer in 223 when using ball powders. H335 for instance gave me almost 200 fps E.S. with full power 50 grain J bullet loads when using Federal 205M primers. AA2200 didn't do much better. Rem 7 1/2 is a fairly hot SR primer and was designed by Remington for IIRC the 222. Rem 6 1/2 is less brilliant and designed decades earlier for the 218 Bee and 22 Hornet size cases. I've not tried the Rem 7 1/2 with ball powder but many use it with success. I use the Fed 205M in 223 with the fast stick powders like 4198 then all the way to Varget. The ball powder is probably easier to light when packed less dense. "Room to burn" is what I've heard. I'd still want to use a hot primer. Rem 7 1/2 or a magnum. It's a hard nut to crack because the manufactures do not rate there primers for heat or burn duration.

    You're welcome, good luck.
H4895 works well too but I am saving that stuff for my bigger bore youth loads!
Report back after you try it!

Any luck with your ramshot tac loads? I got my info from the company also after noticing and inquiring that the H4895 is next to the TAC on the burn rate charts

I'm in on the 4th run on this mold, and got it for my AR and will probably be a few months before I get to cast any.
So, I probably gunna guess these won't chamber or stabilize in a Remington 700 action with a 1-12" twist correct?
