Question MAS 36 and the 7.5x54 French round, opinions please!

Williams Gunsite has what appears to be a nice French MAS 36 on one of their used racks that I've given a cursory glance at once or twice. Just curious as to opinions about this ugly little rifle and it's chambering. I see that Graff's still has 7.5x54 French brass in stock.

I'm thinking about taking a drive down to Williams' in the morning and giving this rifle a much closer look.

Anybody have experience with this combination and Cast Boolits?

    Thanks,

I have a bolt and semi in the French caliber. Both shoot the Lyman 311672 160 gr. boolit very well. Brass is an easy reform from 6.5 x 55 swedish mauser.

    Matt,
The Mas is one of the nicest cast bullet rifles I have. I have a 36 and a 49/56. I have shot the 311414, 311413, 311382, 311384, RCBS 30-165 and 180 from 1600-2100 FPS. Both of mine have excellent bores and really nice wood. It takes a while to get used to the bolt on the 36.
Mine has also been trouble free. Mark

    Thumbs up Couldn't resist!

Well, when I got to Williams this morning I found that they now had two of them. Same one I'd looked at before was parkerized, with new wood finished very nice, sling too and the price was $225. The other was almost as nice - blued finish and darker hardwood with very little grain showing and only a couple of dings for $199. I checked the bore on the cheaper rifle and it was like new. That made up my mind. The $199 rifle with the like new bore is now in my gunsafe. Only regret is that I wish I'd have bought one of these several years back when they were $79.95 over the counter at Dunham's. Oh well, live and learn. Probably be a while before I can do anything with this one but I'm sure she'll live up to expectations.

Thanks for the info 45 2.1 and Crazy Mark. Gives me a good place to start when I get the time to mess with this rifle.
