This is the beginning of a lube recipe, the lube after all is melted, and an example of why we shouldn't splash 450 degree grease on our bare skin.

This is an example of what a soap based lube looks like.

This is what happens when we assume that Na stearate powder is equal to Ivory. We find out quickly that a far smaller amount of Na stearate powder is required and that the false assumption has lead to Na stearate brittle. Not nearly as yummy as peanut brittle.

This, boys and girls, is what happens when you listen to Geargnasher and Runfiverun regarding lube making. Bad idea.

Hmmm. As long as you did not violate the test batch rule ($ no more than you can afford to loose and volume no greater than you van bury in your yard) these test batches look like good learning experiences.

I made my first test batch in a quart sauce pan. It tested fine so I figured I could afford $10 of molly based grease and mixed up my next batch in a 20 qt pot (not full, mind you). I am now the proud owner of about 20 years worth of boolit loob. But I have a big yard if need be.

(ahem) You are now the proud owner of lots of lube to help get new cast shooters started?

Better to have a lifetime supply of lube than a lifetime supply of flux.

My first attempt at making Ben's Red:

The first one is fresh outta the pot and the second after setting up for 24+ hours. I thought about trying to introduce my new "Chad's Biege" lube to the forum but was just sure you guys would notice the recipe was similar.

This reminds me to write down a personal rule that when lube making or smelting make sure that your stirrer is taller than the sides of the container. Gear, this looks like that one barely clears.

    simple lube

Here's my high tech high volume lubing set up.

Does me and no fuss for my tapered bullet plus I can hammer them through a sizing die if I must.
Enough can be down in quick enough time for a days banging away.

Lube is Simple lube goes with my simple nature.

    Hope it is self explanatory.
Holding a camera and doing the youtube thing

O.K. for the few that need directions.
    Pick up bullet in forceps.
Place over a heat source for a few seconds
    Place in hardened lube.
    Bullet will melt lube
Place on parchment paper to dry/solidify.
    No mess no fuss
Fully automated if you can get some one else to do it.
Time goes quick with the other hand with a coffee in it.

Barra, Nice set up and good idea. May I offer another idea, Take a half spoonful of your lube, place it into a baggy or plastic cup. Melt the
lube in hot water or as I do, I stick the baggy into a cup of hot water. When melted I drop in the boolits, mix around and then dump into wax paper.
1 cup of hot water from the microwave might save you all that propane use. This of course works only if your lube melts with hot water like my 45/45/10 does.

Just my $.02 worth, Safe shooting, Mike

    Tried it mike works o.k.
I put the bullets in with the wax at the beginning
I may get brave enough and put a tea bag in with the hot water as well.

    Waste not want not.
