I know there are quite a few more of you out there this year making your own bullets. Let's have another fun competition!
(Moderators, if we could keep this thread here in the swaging forum, as it pertains to the swaged bullet shooting crowd, I will post a reference in the "our town" forum directing anyone interested here. Thanks)
I welcome everyone and anyone to participate. For those of you that do not swage your own yet or don't have a complete set of dies yet projectiles/bullets are available at no cost in one lot of 50 bullets. Joe Christensen has graciously donated 2 lots of 50 bullets and I will have several packs of bullets to donate soon.
Please let us all know the extent of this up coming years shoot with a simply reply stating you wish to participate. All entries will be allowed up to the date posted for the end of this shoot. You do not have to reply with a "count me in" but it will be fun to know how many we have completing. You can still participate even after the start date has passed so long as you submit your target postmarked on or before last day of shoot.
Start date: January 1st 2014
End date: March 31th 2014
These dates should give you all plenty of opportunity for tuning a good load, making some bullets or holding out for a good weather weekend.
Simple rules here, anything goes so long as the bullet you are shooting is made from 22lr, 22mag or 17 HMR brass.
Scoring will be simple. We are all grouped into the same category, doesn't matter if your shooting a $10K bench gun or $300 wallmart special. We will shoot two 5 shot groups on the target posted below. Both groups will be graded for score and group size. Perfect "score" would be 100 (2 groups of 5 shots each all in the 10 ring). Tie breaker would be the number of "X" rings (the smallest center circle) hit. "Group" score should be pretty self-explanatory, total the group size in inches of both targets combined. Two .25" groups would equal a total group score of .500" simple!
Only one piece of target paper will be submitted for scoring so both your groups must be on the same piece of paper. Targets will be sent to my PO address and must be post marked on or before the last day of shoot. I will post pics of all targets submitted and results for the match. Shooters are encouraged to include as much data as possible regarding the bullets and loads used, example... powder brand, grains, bullet weight, gun, barrel length, twist, fps, scope weather conditions, manufacture of die set, etc. Shooters are also encouraged to post pictures of their progress with target pics.
Remember this is all for fun and seeing just what can be done with home made bullets made from scrap brass. The more pics and info we can gather here the more interesting, exciting and helpful it will be to all of us making our own bullets now or will be in the future!
Simple prizes will be awarded to best groups/scores. A drawing will be held for more substantial items. I'll donate one of my one step dies (40 or 44 caliber winners choice) or $225 "store credit" towards any of my products, to be given away to winner of random drawing, same as last year.
I still have a few of the donated items left over from the last shoot and will be looking for any additional donations for this years shoot. Please post if you have anything you wish to donate for prizes.
Here are the rules of the shoot.
In short this is a compition for any caliber bullet made from 22lr, 22mag or 17HMR cases for jackets using any set of dies.
RULES AND DETAILS
Distance = 100yrds
Caliber = your choice
Fire arm = anything goes, bolt action, varmint/target rigs, hunting riffle, pistol, semi auto, scoped, open sights, All will be clasified into same catigory.
Rests = Sure! The only thing we are grading is the target, feel free to shoot off hand if that is what you shoot best.
Bullet/projectile = has to be swaged using 22lr/22mag/17hmr cases for jackets. Jackets can be trimmed. Any weight or style bullet is good to go. No commercial jackets or bullets or bullets made from jackets drawn from copper strip or cups. . Can be bullets you made or made by others. Can be made from any set of dies you wish. For those that do not swage bullets yet, simply post your interest here and we will figure out how to get you some bullets to load. Swagers are not allowed to profit from this fun shoot by attempting to sell bullets they made unless they have legal FFL-06 licence. Shooters are responsable for the safty of the loaded round. No liability should fall on the swager that made the projectiles.
Loaded ammo = Obviously has to be reloaded and not necessarily by the shooter. No factory ammo.
Eligibility = anyone can send in target. Encourage relitives, spose, friends, the more the better.
Target =You can simply print the target pictured below from the following link. The target is located about half way down the page. Make sure you are using the same target as pictured below with 2 targets on same page!http://www.accurateshooter.com/shooting-skills/targets/
Consider the .5" target the X ring and the 1" circle the 10 ring and so on.
I will have a transparent overlay of the outer rings that are covered by the bold square so accurate scoring can be determined.
Let me know if you guys have any questions or concerns. You all have 3 months to turn in a target. Might sound like a long time but I remember the last shoot went by pretty quickly. Please let us all know if you wish to participate and pass on the invite to anyone you might think would like to participate. I'll be turning in a target for certain yet I'll consider myself ineligible for the awards.
Good shooting and swage on!
Brian
