The only time you have too much fuel on board is when you're on fire.

Stevens #26 Crackshot. Talked a family friend out of it when I was a kid. 55+ years ago. Now have a sizable collection of Stevens single shots as a result.
Single shot... well sort of. Mine was an early side selector Savage Model 24, .22-.410.

While all the other kids got 10/22s and Nylon 66s, I got to lug this heavy bolt gun around.

Mine was a Daisy .22 never saw another one ever, my cousin wound up with it , he broke it and threw it away.
AR15 goes bang, AK47 goes bang, Mosin goes boom...
My first was a Crossman .22 pellet rifle at age 10. After that I used my Dad's 4/10 gage shotgun and his .22 Stevens auto rifle. My very first center fire rifle was a Marlin .30/.30 which I promptly sold and bought a Winchester .30/.30. BC

Theres a fine line between genius and crazy .. I'm that line
and depending on the day I might just step over that line !!!
Mine was a Crackshot 26, which as my Grandfather's first rifle and my Dad's first rifle.
My Great-Granddad paid $2.65 and six quarts of Great Grandma's green beans for it. It has a bulged barrel from my Granddad shooting a .22Short in it back in the Great Depression, the bullet lodged in the barrel, and he fired another one, thinking he had simply missed. He said he got his hide tanned for wasting ammo.
The rifle is in my safe about twenty feet from where I sit right now.

My first was an Iver Johnson Champion .410 nice case hardened receiver. Love it still take it out once or twice a year, dad got it for me as soon as he found out mom was having a child, gender didn't matter he wanted a hunting buddy. He Traded another gun for it, money was scarce in them days. I'll never sell it as soon as my daughter can thumb back the hammer it'll be hers.
Unforgettable Christmas, Western Auto, single shot, bolt action, 410 shotgun. I couldn't have been more thrilled...I was praying for a "real" gun but didn't think Mom would go for it. Dad came thru , hid it in the trunk of the car and brought it in at the last minute , it wasn't even wrapped. The box was heavy and long.... I just couldn't believe I got a real gun for Christmas. Sometimes Dad's just have to sneak things over on Mom's. ( bet he caught flack for it). Still got that little 410...need to take it out hunting again.

First was a Daisy 25 pump, and I was too short/week to pump it without putting the butt on the ground.
First real one was sharing the Win. mod 62 (22 S, L, LR) with my Dad. It's still my #1.
The first single shot was a Stevens 16 ga that was rusted red from basement storage. I refinished the metal to almost presentable condition, at age 11. Lots of bunnies and squirrels fell to its pattern over the next few years.

Stevens single shot 22 with cocking knob on back of bolt. Used shop class in Junior year of high school to refinish the stock and put a forearm piece on the stock that was very slick looking. Second gun was a Stevens single shot 20 gauge that would kick the snot out of you with high brass.

A Winchester Mdl 37 (12 gauge) that I bought from a neighbor for $10, then using my lawn-mowing money, sent away to Stoeger's for a Savage Mdl 24 22/.410 (yeah, it counts as a single shot). Cost me $24.50 plus $4 shipping.

Ithaca Model 49 22lr at 13years old. I shot a brick of .22's the first day. My mom was aghast that I could shoot that many. She took me back to Gamble's to get another brick.....this time with my $$. That one lasted a week or so.
