    "New" 7mm mold

I just picked up an old Lyman/Ideal 7mm mold at a gun show for $2 that is in pretty good shape on the inside. It is Ideal mold #285365 and appears to be 160 gr. I will fire up the lead pot tomorrow to mic and weigh it. Has anyone ever shot boolits from this mold in modern rifles? It appears to be connected historically to the 7mm Ross and 7x57. I would like to try it in my 7mm TCU carbine. For $2 what the heck right?

Please post a pic or 2. I'm quite curious as to what this boolit looks like. I have a 7x57 that is my current problem child for cast boolits.

I doubt a picture of just the mold would come out but if you have a copy of the 3rd Edition of the Lyman cast book, it has a long nose like the 287308 but has one more lube groove. It certainly cleaned up nice a few minutes ago.

Actually I have the 287308 mold. Didn't shoot worth a darn in my rifle.

I just poured, weighed and mic'ed the first small batch and was quite surprised. It is deceptively light. In spite of the boolit being easily an 1/8" longer than my current 140 gr mold (Lee soup can), the boolits drops right at 140.4 gr without the gas check. The drive bands mic at .286-7 and the nose is .275. Since I already have a 130 gr RNGC that is sub MOA on my good days, I have no need of it. Send me a pm if you are interested in a trade. In any case, I got my $2 worth of entertainment on this project.

This is the next one I think I need to try in my 7x57.

If you are refering to the 287407 150gr Louverin FN, I am already signed up.
