    Junior's .30 cal "Soup Can"

    OK fellows,

I've got these cast up, Gas-Checked, sized and lubed. As-cast, they weighed in at 113gr. I'm going to start them off in my Winchester M94 Carbine in 30-30. I plan on shooting them in 30.06 as well eventually.

I lubed the boolit into the 1st groove, leaving the 2nd open as a crimp groove, so when I seated it in the 30-30 case, I wound up with a C.O.L. at 2.306", which is decidedly shorter than the minimum recommend length. They seem to feed fine in my M94. The boolit actually seats only .363" into the case, where my 170gr. GCFP seats .461" deep, so I shouldn't have to worry about a smaller capacity driving up pressure, should I?

I am going to follow the recommendations in the Lyman Cast Bullet Handbook for the 115gr., starting at 7.0gr. Unique up to a max of 11.4gr. Unique.

Has anyone else shot this boolit yet? Do my numbers seem to make sense to you experienced guys, and is there anything I should watch out for?

I won't be able to shoot these for a couple of weeks, but I'll watch here for feedback before I do, just in case there's something I've missed that I should worry about. If not, I'll post results when I have them.
The more I learn, the more I realize I've got more to learn!

My little boy(9yrs old) has been shooting this boolit for about a month now. We started with 8.5gr of Unique with decent results. They shot about 1" groups at 50yds. However, with 7.0grs they will shoot about 3/4" at the same distance. I seat them to 2.40" in a Handi Rifle. The boolit is just kissing the lands at that length. I've aslo tried the 7.62x39 and they shot much better. I posted a pic of the target my little one shot at 25yds about two weeks ago. Hope that helps some. If you have any other questions you can email me. I'm going to try the "soup can" again this week with a factory crimp on them. Later.
