What is your intent........hunting? Plinking to have fun?

The RCBS 200 grainer is a good one for accuracy and hunting; it would be a good one for shooting targets with too I suppose.

Ditto on the rcbs. WW to 1800fps shot great, then ht ww to 2500 fps and still good accurracy.

Ordered lyman's 204 grain mold but it pours way undersized with ww alloy for me.

Called lyman and they said send it back and they would open it up some so don't really know about
that one. Pretty boolit tho. Sure hope they get it right.

    hunting & plinking.
    pretty much covers it.
I just like getting it from the safe, after so many years of never having chambered a round after buying it . Work up a load that I can smack the gong with. Knowing that if I ever really need it it is ready.

I am just getting to know my 98 mauser, re-bored to 35 whelen, I have a few threads going on it with a chamber cast, another on 38/357 boolits and then the 250grain Cast Bullet Engineering mold from Jim here in Australia:

There are two threads going in the CB Loads Your Favorite Cartridge part of the forum:

I bet the 35 Whelen really smacks your shoulder in a Handi Rifle!

My brother says it does. He put a D cellerator pad on it and that cured it. Don.t know if that's how
how to spell it but you probably know which one i mean.

which wacks harder the 500 S&W mag in a handi or maybe the 454 casull in a handi or the really killer the cut down 10 gauge with slugs. Hope the whelen fits in with the rest of the FAMILY ?

I would give the RCBS 35-180 bullet a try, sure shot well ( back when I did more casting and lead bullet shooting) in my 357 Supermag and my Rem 700 35 Whelen.

I hope to get back into lead shooting next spring.

I have an H&R 1871 Classic Carbine in 45 Colt. The Handy Rifle has a rubber butt pad, the Classic Carbine is steel. The steel butt plate is very efficient at transferring energy to the shoulder with minimal loss, particularly with 'Ruger only loads.' I would like to get a 35 Whelen barrel as I admire that cartridge. I am also thinking a period looking lace-on leather butt-pad would be the order of the day.
