    Wheel weight score

I am a manager at a tire shop so I am able to pick out lead wheel weights from the total tally. I am guessing the lead is down to around 15% of the total weights now. I average maybe 25lbs a week. This week I got 43lbs and had to make a run to another location.

They usually only have 10-11bls available, but their battery guy (who does the recycling) hadn't been there yet so I rifled through their buckets too. Another 52lbs! 95lbs in one week is a score. I am probably nearing 1000lbs total WW & ingots.

Neat-O!!!! WW's are getting scarcer and scarcer here. One of the big tires shops won't sell them to individuals, and there are a couple salvage places who now refuse to sell to individuals. Between the economy and the government, it's getting real hard to find our materials at an affordable price. Good luck on your score. BTW, I've had better luck finding lead at the local scrap yard, then I have WW's, and with the various solders I've found, I can mix my own. You might consider that.

el34 I would say weight wise the stickons are maybe 5-6%. Like all used weights, some are lead but all new weights are zinc.

mikeym1a as long as they let me pick out the lead for free I am all over it. I have heard a few rumblings that it isn't "really' allowed... means they may cut me off in the near future. In the meantime free is good!

What solders have you found and from where? The only solder I have ever seen is at the harware store and it just seems expensive to buy a 1lb roll at Ace Hardware.

If you don't like the solder price, buy pewter. At 2% of your total weight that's still way ahead of most casters.
