    44 mag help

I have a contender in 44 mag, barrel slugs at .430.

    My sizing die is .430

Would you think I can get an accurate load with that sizer or should I spring for a .431 sizer?

Blammer, try measuring boolits FROM YOUR ALLOY after sizing. What you see stamped is not always what you get. I have a Lyman sizing die marked .356" which makes exact .357" boolits. So I bought a .356" marked die for my 9mm pistol and now I have TWO .357" dies. Sometimes its hard to win! OTOH, it's not too hard to bump up boolits a thousandth or two by leaning on the lubrisizer a little, if your mould casts small and you have a larger die.

If your alloy is not overly hard the bullets will bump up in size and give you a good seal on firing, anyway. Make your alloy hardness suitable for the pressures developed by your favorite load, use a good lube and you shouldn't have any problems with bullets sized at bore size.

All the previous points are valid especially the "try it and see." It has been my experience that air cooled wheel weights will obdurate to fill the chamber unless you are using an extremely mild load. Good luck and be sure to report back. As you may be able to discern, I love the 44 !
