First off I want to thank whoever it was who turned me on to using 44-90 sharps cases in my 43 Spanish rolling block rifle! Those are perfect to get the case out to the end of the chamber so the boolit doesn't have to go through such nasty distortions on its way to the rifling. The Lee dies set the shoulder back enough so the cases would chamber easily, and I trimmed .090" off the end to take them just to where the chamber tapers into the rifling. Oh, I did have to bore out the end of the die so the case wouldn't hit it. The cases are nearly as long as the die.
These cases also make up some kind of powerful loads! I shot .5cc 5744+85gr. Fg, still had plenty of room for a card wad, .250" grease cookie, another card, and .100" for the boolit. For that I used the same casting I use in my Swiss Vetterli - 320gr. round nose slick, .425". Patched to .433" it is a nice slip fit in my roller's bore. I have 20 cases so that's how many I fired without wiping. Still shooting great at the end, holding right at 2MOA at 100 and 200 yards. The rifle is one of the little Argentine carbines with its crude sights and 25lb trigger pull, so I don't feel that is too shabby. Sure is worlds ahead of what it does with the normal length 43 spanish cases and grease groove boolits! (Those are more like 8 - 10 MOA.)
At any rate the switch to 44-90 cases has allowed this rifle to be much more useful and enjoyable, and it's going to get used a lot more in the future!
