    20 ga heavy loads

Has anyone loaded 20 ga heavy(1oz) low velocity loads before? around 1000 fps. would like to load low recoil loads for skeet.

I think you would be better served by reducing the shot weight rather than velocity, if recoil reduction is your goal. I've loaded 3/4oz loads for 20 guage that have very low recoil, but still break targets very well because the velocity is the same as regular loads at about 1200 fps. I don't believe the heavier shot charge at lower velocity is the approach you need.

Pick up a reloaders guide where you buy components, Alliant,Hodgdon, etc. (they're free), and look for the loads that generate the lowest psi. They'll be the lightest "kickers".

    Take care,

I had tried some 3/4 oz loads on a practice round of skeet, and did pretty well for first time out (20/25). Shot anouther round using factory loads and did worse. was just thinking that more pellets might be better than faster load.

All else being the same, more pellets in the load may help, but just think of what effect dropping 250 fps from your loads would have on stations 3.4.& 5.

1 oz. loads would be OK for informal shooting, but 7/8 oz is top for 20 ga. in registered shoots.

my favorate 12 ga load is 7/8 oz at 1430 fps no4 for phesant no 6 for grouse

ya dont mulch the birds but the shot doesent bounce off of them eather
