    CMP Garand

Placed my order for a Garand at CMP Friday. Should have it in a couple months! I have always wanted one since thats what my dad carried the winter of 44/45 in the 99th Infantry Division. They called them the "Battlin Blue ********" and was the only infantry division to not retreat in the Battle of the Bulge. He was wounded twice and finally shipped home to a hospital.

He could rattle off the serial number of his M1 but I never wrote it down and regret that today.

I know its probably been discussed a hundred times but what are you guys thoughts on firing GC cast boolits in the old M1's? Also ordered some of that Greek 30-06 ammo with boxer primers. I know most military ammo has crimped in primers. What do I need to make this brass re-loadable?

I shoot GC cast loaded in Greek brass out of my Garand. When I had time to play around with it I was getting 3-4" groups off hand from 50 yards. If you do a search about Garands there is plent of load data.

I haven't opened any of the Greek ammo I bought, but if I remember right, someone around here said it doesn't have the primer crimp like GI. Some of the guys here have done a lot of work with milsurp powders and cast bullets. I use 40 grs of H4831 with an old Ideal 311413 bullet and it works fine in my CMP M1. I think Bruce B. recommended that load.
