That is about 9 so far.
Still looking at an exact copy and be sure it drops from the mold freely at .312
with a .300, or .301 nose.

I am IN.

Bill, glad you are in, and you are not running this one, so you can just sit back and enjoy your mold hassle free. You have done many and much for this board.
David
I just miced some 311041s I bought naked from Wayne Doudna. The alloy is his version of ww. Average weight = 174.0 grs. Average diameter = .3115".
Count me in for the 6 cavity deal if the average diameter is .312" or less. Any more, I'm out.
Dave I'm glad to see you take it on, and I have not done much for very many, getting a nice mold for a good bullet is reward enough. The folks that founded this site and keep it running smoothly deserve thanks if anybody does.

You can count me in a mold as well.
Wow, just when I thought this was a lost cause... Anxious to see the drawing, and will send money if a perfect original.
Heres something for you to look at. Both versions came from Lyman molds. BDoyle has the newer version and he says it shoots very well. I've measured it and I would agree that it has very good dimensions.
452.1 thank you I was going to ask you if you could post the drawing. On my browser, Its not too clear, I can't even read the text. But from what I gather, the "new version" is tapered instead of having a driving band in the front. Is that correct?
Speaking for most of us here, we want .312 with wheelweights, and a .300 or .301 nose, I am not sure which. We would also like round (radiused is that a word?) grease grooves so the boolit drops from the mold.
Looks like we are up to 12 so far.
David
Most of us don't want an improved 311041. We want a 311041.
I will be shooting some of the ones I got from Willbird on Sunday. These are the older version. I do not have any of the newer version but I may be able to get some from fatnhappy if that is what his mold is.
I think Lyman calls it a tapered ballseat on the 311644.
Junior are you talking about the front band or radiused grease grooves or being .312 ?
I like the ones I got from Willbird so far.
I want to hear it all
David
I want a bullet that looks like a 31141, BUT also drops from an aluminum 6 cavity easily.......maybe bullet design has nada to do with the mold material. I speak for only myself, I do not know what "most" want.

Post # 4 says bullets fall out of the 31141 mold ok, or words to that effect. An aluminum 6-C 31141 mold should work exactly the same.Originally Posted by Willbird

Like Junior, I want a 31141. It's time for a sticky VOTE.

I like the front band and the square lube grooves. Both of the CB shown have square lube grooves. I do not have a 31141 mold or a CB from this mold to measure to know how close the CB is to 0.312, but a WW CB in '31141' that measued 0.312 would be useful. Can always make it smaller. Not as easy to bump up.Originally Posted by David R

Old version specs:
1. 0.311" to 0.312" drive bands behind crimp groove work well.
Most 30-30 chambers won't accept a bullet much over
0.3115" to 0.312".
2. 0.300" nose and below do NOT work well because they
won't touch much of anything, at least in my rifles.
0.302" nose jam up in some rifles. Nose should be
from 0.301" min. to 0.3015" max. 0.301" would be
good to shoot for.
3. The band in front of the crimp groove is critical if you want
accuracy. 0.302" doesn't touch at all. 0.303" touches some.
Maybe 0.304" would do it.
I'm talking biggest as-cast diameter anywhere being .312" or less. Nose MUST also be .300" to .301".Originally Posted by porkchop bob
