Changing point of an existing bullet

I purchased a bunch of Hornady amax 75 grain bullets. Thought I was going to use them in my ar. They are too long to be loaded in the mag. Would it be possible to change the point to a profile resembling a Sierra match king ? Without killing accuracy of course.

    Thanks

maybe. I suppose it would be worth a try. I have redone bullets before. If your talking .224 nothing is going to make the bullet much shorter. I suppose you could take a vld design and change the ogive to 8,7,6s and it could make it a little less pointy and fatter. If you send me a couple I can put them in my 8s die and see. I dont have a 6

edited one other thing .. if they are boat tailed They may come out with a flatter base too. I have rebated boat tailed dies but they will not be the same as a factory boat tail ... Still it could be worth a try.

Whidden Gunworks makes a metplate trimmer and point form die. The point form may be too long and is fairly expensive. Trimming doesn't seem to effect accuracy; according to their literature and the bench guys.

Some guys have used the 75 grain Amax in ARs and got pretty good accuracy despite bullet jump. Experimentation with your rifle would be the only way to know for sure.
You could sell those Amax's, but the problem of getting something to replace them with is up close and personal to all of us.

That is my problem. There some local guys that will buy them, but finding replacements is a tough task! I should have ordered a set of BT's dies 6 months ago. At the time, I thought I would not have time to swage all those bullets. What a mistake!

The plastic tip on the A-Max may make it more difficult to re-shape.

you could buy a lot of bullets for the price of a point form die.
