.020 or .021 Aluminum Strip for Gas Checks

Is there any interest in .020 or .021 aluminum strip (3/4" x 1000ft) for Gas Checks?

The material I am pursuing; is for use in my .50BMG Gas Check maker. It will be either .020 3103 HH aluminum or .021 5251 HH aluminum sourced from Yonky here on this site. My goal for this material is to use with the .50BMG boolit when I get my NOE 513 850Gr. FN mold in March or April 2013.

I'll act as Honcho, who is interested?

what is OD of the checks that you make with your FReechex III?

It needs to be larger than the OD (.513) of the cast boolit in the groupbuy

    Duke:

The sample aluminum strip I received with my Check Maker dies mics out at .0199 to .0201 thickness, depending on measuring site. The sample is soft aluminum, and the checks pressed with the die measure .5121 to .5134. Not sure why the variance, possibly because the aluminum is soft and the outside edge is slightly compressed out of round by the measuring process for the cups that measured smaller in diameter.

Understand the .513 or larger issue to ensure good cast boolit performance.

Looking at a table of Aluminum Alloy's and their hardness, 3003 seems to be a reasonable place to start.

    Your thoughts/recommendations on material?

The best sizing performance, from lot of folks who cast for this bullet (from the previous group buy) is at .513", so the OD of the checks should be at least that big.

The wall thickness of the material is restricted between the two working parts of the FreeChecks III (and any other die set as well. )

It's why a BUNCH of us requested the drawing of the back end of the bullet, with details, from Al.............
It's not a matter of material hardness or softness, per se.
It's a matter of the ability of the tool to make a larger OD, while still holding the proper ID for the check.

For the big bore checks (my 500 S&W Magnum, for example) I use .023 aluminum material. I am planning on using that same material for the checks for this mold.
