    I've got a few 209s I use for catfish.

When we use to spend the night out on the lake, my buddy would say, "I see you remembered to bring the crane".

Better to have a crane and not need it than need it and not have it.

They do look kind of odd on a fresh water lake.
On a deep lake, we'd set out lights and fish for crappie & sand bass until about 2 AM.
Then set out one or two of the 209s and go to sleep.
    It was a good system.

Our lake here is sort of shallow. I'll set out two with big sinkers, and drift away a hundred yards or so, then anchor down.
We then fish straight down with minnows for crappie.

I bought a 309 for snagging last year, but changed my mind and wanted a spinning reel. Got a battle 3 since penn reps told me it would hold up to abuse.

Now i use my 309 on my backup snagging rod for catfish. Im not gonna be that guy that catches a state record and has to bring it in on an ultralight.
Praise the Lord and pass the ammunition.
