I say do both, a underhammer bench gun and one to lug around!

I like a flinter for hunting and casual plinking, but those sealed-breech bench guns just have an undefinable attraction for me. Not as attractive as the old Billinghurst bench guns, but they seem more serious about the pursuit of accuracy.

My much use and battered (honest wear) H&A from over 45 years ago.

Young guys should hang out with old guys; old guys know stuff.

Here's my underhammer; a Norwegian Kammerlader, .69 caliber capping breechloader built in 1851 as part of a 2000-gun contract with the Crause factory in Herzberg, Germany. I shoot a 695gn .70 caliber paper patched conical bullet over a 12g felt wad & 95gns of KIK 1.5Fg.

The picture of the single bullet is of an original Kammerlader bullet with a VERY pointy nose!
