I go to Tar-gé and load up on store brand single ply rolls, 30-40 whatever will fit in my basket on top of 3 bulk packages of Bounty towels, both last a cpl years...
Got a .22 .30 .32 .357 .38 .40 .41 .44 .45 .480 or .500 S&W cylinder that needs throats honed? 9mm, 10mm/40S&W, 45 ACP pistol barrel that won't "plunk" your handloads? 480 Ruger or 475 Linebaugh cylinder that needs the "step" reamed to 6° 30min chamfer? I ask my wife yesterday how much she thought we used. She had no idea. After I was no longer single, I realized how much more females use.

In the Service, a buddy I worked with said he only stole one roll of TP out of the Head every week or two.
After his girlfriend moved in with him, he had to steal and take home one roll almost every day.

Not the big ones anyway. Sear's catalogs and most newspapers are gone too.

So,,, now days- it's back to corn cobs or a handful of grass or leaves.

He would then carefully remove the paper wiping his finger as he pulled it off and finally find a clean corner and clean out under his fingernail. Using this method (which I do not prescribe) a roll should last a year or more.
Drill instructor showed us this. Purely entertainment. Only the circle you ripped out of the middle was placed in your ear for safekeeping until you needed to clean the fingernail. There were more than 1 sheet of TP in a ration, it was a small folded bundle.
