    22 core mold designs

I'm looking to build my self a couple of multi-core, core molds for swaging 22 bullets.

Does anyone have a basic design they wouldn't mind sharing?

Just BUY one from him. they are cheap enough, and he already has the design correct!

Well I do have a complete CNC machine shop and the materials, I don't have a whole lot of extra cash.

I do have a couple sets of BT's dies which have worked great, I just though this was something I could make myself.

for .224 bullets you would want your mold to be .1875 diameter holes. Mine work great for me.

A 6cav blank from Lee is a good start point. The rest should be easily done on CNC equip.
BT's mold is great! 11 cores at a drop. Be very carefull though getting it up to tmep. You are cutting 11 sprues instead of 6, double the shear force & I snapped my handle off w/ my first full pour. The mold has to get a lot hotter than when casting 6cavs. It does prudce a ton of cores fast, like 1500-2000/hr fast.

    What he said +1!

Lee 6 cavity mold blanks were $40 when I got mine. I just figured out what the heaviest core I would need for whatever bullet I wanted to make, measured to plunger pin size in my squirt die and drilled the cavities .003 or .004 smaller than that. I also put an extra cavity between each pair of holes, drilled and chamfered the extra holes in the sprue plate and my core mold now drops 9 cores instead of the 6 the Lee is setup for from the factory. Using the squirt die to adjust your core weight is NO extra work as you should be squirting your cores anyway.

This is what I have in mind:

There would be a handled screwed into the center section, and one welded onto the spru plate. There would also be two springs on the 3/8" shoulder bolts.
Fill with lead, break off spru, hold upside down over water bucket, strike the bottom with a soft hammer to eject the cores.

Corbin sells a core mold similar to that and I've got one somewhere. It's made with steel cylinders, adjustable plungers to regulate the weight of each cavity and the bottom bar is also adjustable to vary the weight of the cores. The idea has merit, BUT the thing won't fit under a bottom pour pot, weighs a ton and being made without a mold block doesn't help keeping tempratures even, and we all know consistancy IS extremely important!

Blank is a bit more then regular 6 cavity mold and you need a mill or tallent with a good drill press but this is what I make and offer.

    BT

Now that's what I'm talkin about! Mine only drops 9 at a time, but it's the exact same principal AND it's head and sholders ahead of the Corbin core mold.
