Results MP 10mm 200gr WFN PC version

Thought about starting a new thread, but there’s so much good stuff in this one thought better to keep it going.

I was following this rerun gb a couple of years ago but never committed back then. The night before it closed in January, I happened to spot it and jumped in as the last man, just hours before it closed!

Many thanks to Oreo for honchoing and Miha for another superb product.

I went for the 200 gr. without lube grooves for PC. It looks like there were only three of these ordered. With the mix I used for the initial trial, went really soft, probably 80/20 with a little tin. The shallow hp is running 207.5 gr. coated and the solid 212 gr. coated with this mix. After coating I ran them through a .401 Lee sizer which they just kissed. There was no deep hp on this buy which is fine with me. I used Smoke’s Super Glossy Clear using the DT procedure on the MP-Molds website, with which I got great results. Don’t think I’ll ever ESPC again! This is the first MP mold I have gotten that has dedicated flat point pins. Really like that. I found that 700 degrees was the sweet spot for fill out. I don’t hunt, probably just use for range and defense. I figure this combo should take care of just about anything that needs to be shot. I’ll be ladder testing hopefully next week and post results from G20 and possibly S&W 1006.

I got a 190 gr. mold from the last re-run and cast up some solids. I sized them to .401 on a Star sizer and lubed them with Ben's Red. My starting load was 3.8 gr. of HP-38 and loaded 20 rounds in .1 gr increments up to 4.3 gr. I shot 10 "warm up" shots then a 10 shot group with a S&W 4006 from about 8 yards. Pictures of groups are below.

Just started recovering some bullets shot through a gel block.... I've been pretty happy with this mold. Cleans up nice after shooting and it groups better than I can. This one was cast from 50/50 pb/ww +2% tin. Shot at 1160 from my G20. It zipped right through my block and was captured in the rag box behind. I thought I might try a 20:1 mix or maybe 40:1. Seeing some gas cutting and skidding with this alloy, but really happy with on-target accuracy and velocity thus far. I'll hopefully have some comparison photos later with some softer alloy after it sets for a little while. For some reason I am getting a bhn of around 13 on these bullets. Wondering if I cooled them too fast after coming out of the PC oven (used a fan). I was expecting around 10... Anyway, it looks like more than 1200 is required to open the shallow HP as others have observed.

The shallow hp was not designed to do much more than open up to caliber diameter, ehich it looks like yours did. If you want more then that try a soft nose/hard base. Use a small scoop of pure lead for the nose and ww for the rest. Otherwise, you need a tough maleable alloy for the deep hp and you'll get all the expansion you want.

So finally got around to shooting some 20:1 alloy through the gel. Perfect. Here's the comparison between 50/50 ww/pure alloy and the 20:1 both at 1165 fps. The PB checks do protect the base sufficiently, and accuracy is not deteriorating, so I think I found the combo.

Love this mold....Click image for larger version.
