    Thermometer for smelting/casting

Can I find or use any thermometer that will go up to 700 or so, or am I best off to order one? I didn't know if you could find something at the hardware store or if there were any tips to making something work

    $25 delivered ($19 + $6 s/h)
Tel Tru BBQ Smoker / Grill thermometer
This is a 2" BBQ thermometer that is very well made

I got a thermometer at the grocery store in the grilling accessories section. It hits 750° and cost $7. It has a 8 inch long spike on the back to dip into the lead and a clip to hold it to the side of the pot. Been working fine for me.

I'd use one temporarily if I had to. We don't need precision control. But dial type thermometers are most accurate in the middle of their range. I have to run some of my cramer molds well over 700 so that range isn't enough.

dnmccoy ... don't be foolish to buy the same Tel-Tru thermometer from Lyman or RCBS with their logo printed on the dial for DOUBLE THE PRICE! Buy it directly from Tel-Tru

Buy from Tel-TRU, the 200-1000 degree model for the "GREEN EGG" cooker too.

A Digital one for the MOLDS actual temp helps with your record keeping on mold performance. NOE sells them.
