Can you explain what a "Trail Walk (Blanket Shoot) " is? It is a new term for me. I grew up around guns, but my family was never into competitions.

A trail walk is generally what it says, following a trail, and shooting at various types of targets, at unknown ranges. Much more enjoyable that shooting paper. Locally, there is even an invitational for buffalo rifles for ranges out to 970 yards.
A blanket shoot means everyone brings a prize of some sort to put on the blanket, and after the shooting is over, first choice goes to the high shooter, and on down. Depending on where you are, the prizes can be decent, or not. When my particular group gets together, prizes must have a value of at least $100, but most don't have the limit, and anything goes. I even won a live chicken on one!
The solid soft lead bullet is undoubtably the best and most satisfactory expanding bullet that has ever been designed. It invariably mushrooms perfectly, and never breaks up. With the metal base that is essential for velocities of 2000 f.s. and upwards to protect the naked base, these metal-based soft lead bullets are splendid.

Forget everything you know about loading jacketed bullets. This is a whole new ball game!

Returned an hour ago from that shoot and did OK. I.e., I missed a few shots that I shouldn't have, but still managed to "win" a prize from the blanket. The competition was stiff and one of the better shooters was shooting a 20ga. smoothrifle with a patched RB. While he didn't win 1st place, he did better than quite a few of us rifle shooters.

That sounds like a fun idea. I had never heard of that.
    Waksupi...Congrats on the live chicken.
