# of wraps

Seems like two wraps is probably the norm, anything says a little more would or wouldn't work? I've got a possible project where 3 would likely do the job, kind wondering if some of you had already been there. GW

I have done three. Did ok. Did better when I sized the casting for the wrap to do two though.
I did that to find out the best finished diameter.

I have found that two wraps of 16# is just about perfect when the bullet is sized to bore diameter +.001/.0015 before wrapping.

i wrap three wraps wet on my 640 grain slicks for my 458 winny just to fill the throate and they seem to work fine....they start out in life dropped from my wild west mould at .452...then 3 wraps of 9 pound brings em into the .4625 area which just slips into my fired cases so this is what i do...3 wraps.

Yeah. Why shouldn't three wraps work if the standard criteria are met? Bore plus a tad boolit diameter and groove plus two tads wrapped diameter. Or more conveniently, a little undersize groove wrapped to groove plus a tad or two. It might be a bit more difficult to get three wraps to align well though.

I have had problems with 3 wraps of the thinner paper standing up to the trip down the barrel. Takes a fairly strong paper to hold up the the friction and pressure inside the barrel. For me anyway, the heavier paper has worked better. When the patch fails in the bore it leaves a lot of lead to clean out.

Yeah, wrapping straight might be a problem. Some days I can't get two wraps on straight no matter how hard I try. GW

i used some .003 inch tablet paper on my big slicks the other day and forgot about em till last night so went and checked em...they are wet wrapped twice and dry they meassure .463 inch so im gonna try them in the 458 but whewww do they look funny...YELLOW PAPER WITH LINES ON IT. ho hum ...pretty is as pretty does...spose the same goes for ugly yellow boolits huh?

The green bar printer paper I used is, well, used. It looks a bit strange with the green and white stripes and printing on it when wrapped around a bullet. Doesn't seem to bother the bullet too much though....
