Built range dirt sifter.

Havent tried range mining before but figured Id give it a shot. Built this last night, hope to try it tonight. Ill post pictures if it works out ok... Any tips or suggestions would be great.

You might need some supports. Dirt, rocks, lead, all get pretty heavy fast. Might pull it screen off or even tear it. I'll be looking to how this works out. I just added this to the threads I follow.

Yeah, the wire mesh isnt really strong, its .25 inch. Im hoping to do a few shovels at a time. If the dirt is sandy it should work out ok, I havent been there in a while to check. Im thinking if I leave it at an angle like its sitting in the picture and throw the dirt on the top, gravity should do a lot of the work for me, maybe... I designed it so that the bottom wooden support is just high enough so that I can pour bullets into a 5gal pail easily so I will do that frequently instead of letting the lead accumulate on the screen.

I have a sifter made of 1/4" hardware cloth---it holds two large shovelfuls of sand---and works superbly well as long as the sand is dry. I have a 2' x 2' x 4' sand box that I tarp when not in use...I can reclaim about 90%+ of my lead using it. Takes me 45 minutes to sift and replace the sand in the sandbox...

About how deep does 9mm or .40 go into a sand box? I have a sand mound up against a dirt/rock hillside. I haven't tried to mine it yet.

If I had one of those I would never get to shoot, I would be mining and selling. I think I will pass I do not need anything else to do.

I havent gotten out yet, but should be able to lean it against a sawhorse like in the picture, except put the narrow part at the top and once there is some dirt in there. pick it up by the handles so the screen is flat and do a hip shake to move the dirt around. Thats the theory at least...
