Anyone shooting a 450 Webley cartridge? Revolver of interest is early 1870s. Wondering if a light load of Unique might also work. Brass available or can be made? Looks like a lot of fun to play with.

Hi PB-
I have a Galand revolver of the same era chambered in .450 Webley. I had to thin and reduce the diameter of the rims of .455 Webley brass to get them to chamber, but the Hornady .455 brass works well.
I use a load of 3.0 grains of Bullseye and a lightweight (I think about 150 grains) hollow-base bullet (Lyman 450229) that drops at about .452-.453 diameter. I lube it with LLA and load it up. It shoots well and is very low pressure.
Hope that helps!

I am thinking a round ball over something like 3.5 of Unique. Slap a bit of lube over it. Just a short range fun load. Starting to like the old ones.
.I shoot a .455 Eley Colt New Service. I ended up using .45 Cowboy Special Brass, a 230 grain FMJ from Berry's Mfg on top of 3.5 grains of Bulleseye. In your case, I'd try the .45CS and Black Powder, or one of the substitutes, a 250 grain lead RNFP, or a 230 grain lead RN
Listen! Do you hear it. The roar of cannons, the screams of the dying! Ahh! Music to my ears!
Grapeshot, that is quite the avatar. Is that you?

Fiocchi makes loaded ammo in that caliber, but I wouldn't shoot them in a gun that old. I did and blew up my Webley Bulldog. It had worked fine with cut down 45 Colt brass and light charges of Unique, but the 3rd Fiocchi round blew the cylinder. I shot all the rest of the cartridges and now load them with BP for some other older Webleys that I have. That is a Blackpowder gun so use BP in it.
