Hello and greetings, the artical comes from Gun World, May issue of 1980
I'm glad there are still some 10 ga fans left, bravo!

Thanks, i love the old articles!

41 grains of Blue Dot and 2 1/4oz of payload would be one way of making a man outta anybody! Not sure if i want to get quite that tough!
Raisin' Black Angus cows, outta gas, outta money, outta tags, low on boolits, but full 'a hope on the Rocky Mountain Eastern Slope!
Why does a man with a 7mag never panic buy? Because a man with a 7mag has no need to panic!

Actually not bad shooting, the recoil is a differant curve to it. As for the Mag 10's its a machine...There is something about just holding it..

Good morning, I did not know there was going to be such a interest in 10 ga slugs, since I already have a dedicated team of engineers and am developing 12 and 20 ga Blazing Sabots
and right now being tested, I can perhaps add yet another 10 ga to my line!
Do all of you 10 gauge lovers have smooth bore and need a slug for it, or do you prefer the slug for rifled barrel, let me know as I'll be glad to provide!
Please let me know as since this morning I'm already working for a slug for you.
    What says you?
    Hoping it helps!

I have smoothbore and so do 99.99 % of 10ga owners.
There ain't any rifled barrel 10ga that I know of and
I've been looking real hard. Mine is NEF with 32" heavy barrel.

So two choices get a mold for fullbore hollowbase slugs, maybe too expensive,
and makes them heavier than what most wanr for recoil.
Lighter slugs going little faster is best.
Or use BPI VP100 wadcup and a 69cal cast slug 730gr, that
dixie gunworks sells or get a 69cal mold. I have that mold.
It is hollowbase like minie slug and I just expand base
about .015" and it sets tight in wadcup. Fairly accurate due to
hollowbase in smooth out to 50-70yds. The 700HE jacketed
bullets fit also but are not hollowbase, shown in pic.ED

There are ten bore rifles around. Friend of mine shot the #2 stag in the world, down in New Zealand a few months ago with his 10 bore flintlock. He's building a 4 bore double flinter now, for Africa.
The solid soft lead bullet is undoubtably the best and most satisfactory expanding bullet that has ever been designed. It invariably mushrooms perfectly, and never breaks up. With the metal base that is essential for velocities of 2000 f.s. and upwards to protect the naked base, these metal-based soft lead bullets are splendid.
John Taylor - "African Rifles and Cartridges"

Forget everything you know about loading jacketed bullets. This is a whole new ball game!

Colin Stolzer is set to begin my 10-bore project this fall. I took a 10-gauge double SxS I got in a trade from Hubel458 and Colin is making a screw-in choke sort-of Paradox Rifle for me. I bought a 10-bore barrel and he is making a set of 5" screw-in rifled chokes. The idea is that I can screw them in and out in small increments to regulate at 50yds, the Loctite them in place.

I have a handful of cast bullets from an acquaintance with an original 10-bore and am looking for someone to make a mould. NEI also offers a 960gr truncated cone mould for the big ten.

Good morning, just found these loads for your reference only, if you do use them then drop the charges by 10% as starting for your own safety, these are for 10 gauge only!
    Use them at your risk!!

I still have some factory 3.5” federal 10 gauge slugs laying around. I can usually shoot a fist size group or better with them at 75 yards out of my browning National wild federation turkey gold along with the factory extended turkey choke tube. The choke rattles it loose every shot so it needs to be checked and tightened with each trigger pull.

I had two Ithaca Auto mag's in 10ga and a Browning Gold.

I killed coyotes with 2 1/4 oz of BB and 52 #4 Buckshot, and the rounds would carry way on out there. I got started with the 10's when it was still legal to hunt ducks and geese with lead shot, and killed many of goose at 100 yards with BB's. Predator hunting when not duck/goose hunting was full time.

Recoil is tolerable with the Gas auto's, and you could not give me a pump, must less a double barrel or single shot. Pards I hunted with tried those on coyotes, one or two shots was enough for them...I told them so. People were always wanting to borrow my Ithaca's with their 32" Full chokes due to how they killed. You could still get boxes of 25 Federal Premium shells at that time in Copper plated buffered bB and #4 Buck.

I'm pretty much ready to load for 10 gauge! I have a few boxes of Estate brand shells does anyone know who makes their hulls and what to use for primers?

Estate is Federal 100%, no difference at all except what they stamp in ink on the outside. The plants are across the street from each other. They take any American sized 209 primers, and factory loads currently use Federal 209A primers.
