What press do you use to swage ?

I am looking real hard at the RCE Seagrit press. I think it may be a heck of a bargin and easy for me to adapt my style dies to. Maybe I can talk to Richard see if we can get a "group buy" deal or somthing? As for regular reloading presses..... I have used them all and broken severial too it was all in R&D work of course. I can tell you that RCBS stands behind their garentee even when I told them the truth that I broke it swaging bullets. Lee played 20 questions with me but replaced the press. Redding did not.

I didnt' feel bad about any press I ever broke. By the time they went I had made severial 10s of thousands of bullets with them saving me many times more in cost of bullets then the cost to replace it. If I had to buy another "reloading" press I would look real hard for a good used RCBS RCII RockChucker or if you are good at tinkering modify a Lee Classic Cast. I saw severial very good RCII presses listed on line latly for around $50 plus shipping.

Darn, you can only vote once. I have used the RCII, Supreme, Lee CC, Redding Big Boss, Rcbs special 5.

Don't bother with the Redding or RCBS Special 5.

The supreme doesn't feel as strong as the older RCII. The Lee is exellent if you alter it and increase the leverage, it is also atleast $50 cheaper then the rest.

Use a Lyman "O". Bought some poorly pulled 308 diameters couple yrs ago. They kept collapsing my brass so pushed them through a sizer die. Solved the problem. Was having battery problems with some supposedly sized 45s. Ran them through and again--problem solved. Now I size all boolits after a swim in Alox.

I voted "real swaging press" cuz i use Richard Corbin's Walnut Hill but I also swage on my Rockchucker II ( a 20yr old one) and a CH Swag-O-Matic just for giggles. I should edit to add that I have been using a RCE HydraSwage. Got it a year ago at the A-Square auction. Been extruding lead wire since summer and recently began swaging 0.510 50 BMG bullets, both flat base and RBTs.

I use an original RCBS, it has no model designation, just RCBS stamped under the bushing. Looks kinda likeworks an A or an A2. Yes it is older than dirt, No I havent broken anything on it and not for sale at this time.

I have a walnut hill but also use a Dr Blackmon conversion for my Rochchucker in 44 caliber

Walnut hill for the more serious stuff. I swaged about 500 44's on my Rockchucker before I ordered the adapter from BT to use his dies on my Walnut Hill.

Old school here Herters old 9 ton , I make my own dies and punches on an Sheldon or Atlas lathes and have doing it!

I'm going to order an RCE Sea Grit press very soon. I think it may be a pretty good dedicated swage press for the offered price of around $275. I'll see If I was really good I would design my own with a built in ejector that works with my dies.

But make sure to use suitable material.
I made these extensions with what was on hand, 1/8" stamped mild steel
"one-use" wrenches made for a level adjustment, then the trash.
Got a 44 boolit stuck in the die (now I lube each time!). Pulling it out
took a considerable amount of force. BTW 40s are much easier than 44s.


The replacement, one-piece 3/16" real stuff.

Yep LUBE every bullet and use strong steel on teh linkages. In my first year I bent several 1/2" grade 8 bolts with my Redding big boss press. I still got them around here somewhare.
