    Commercial .45 bullets sunken bases

I was talking to a commercial caster about the bases on his .45's being sunken in on the base. He said it was the alloy and there wasn't anything you could do about it.

From my reading, wouldn't slightly lowering the lead temperature, slowing down the machine a bit and a larger pour prevent the sunken bases?

    Just curious.

his problem is he is sizing before the alloy hasn't fully hardened.
and most likely using the smaller punch that will work with either the 44 or the 45.

when you are in the business of making boolits your profit margin is quite low so you must sell numbers, lots of numbers of boolits.
this will cut into quality somewhat.
steps can be taken to fix some of the small issues but most are just trying to sell enough boolits to make the payment on their equipment.

That is why I thought slowing down the machine might remove the issue. These bullets where not sized, they where straight from the mold, they hadn't made it to the sizer yet.
