    winch - lost remote control

I have a 3,000 lb winch from Harbor Freight installed on the front of my Polaris Ranger. It is one of those remote control winches and yes, I lost the remote control. Does anyone know if it can be converted to a standard control, or have any ideas on how to make it work without the remote?

I have one of those harbor freight 3,000 pound winch on top of my boat rack on my Ford F-250. I use it to load & unload my 12.5 ft. Alum. boat on top of the rack for transporting my boat when I am hooked up to my R.V. trailer. Been there for 5 years and still working great.

Check Harbor Freight websight for a wiring diagram click on the product then there are tabs for information. Mine only has a power in, two wires any switch good for the amperage will work .
Check here http://www.harborfreight.com/catalog...result?q=winch down load the proper product manual for yours mine no longer shows(:-{(>

I liked it just great. It did everything you would need it too. The remote was a great feature, .... until it disappeared. You know how the glove box on vehicles can get cluttered? Well my wife has a habit of cleaning up clutter! Just speculating of course....

go to ebay. they sell a wireless remote for about 8 bucks that has two controlers a large tv remote sized one and a key chain flop controler. Ive got one wired into my utv winch and one on the 8000 lb winch on the jeep. they work great. I was pretty sceptical about it because of the price but the guys on the jeep forums really bragged them up. Only thing with them is theres a slight delay when starting and slight delay in the winch stopping when you hit the buttons. No big deal though. Both of my winches are now set up to use either the cord remote, a wireless remote or switches on the dash.

    thanks Norbrat and Lloyd,
Both of these units are to convert a non wireless winch to wireless. My winch was wireless from the getgo. I wonder if the units operate on the same frequency. Maybe the remotes will work with my winch without having to do anything else?

i doubt it would. I think they all have individual codes so you dont activate someone elses winch. There pretty easy to install though and im sure it would wire right in simular to the way yours is wired now.

If it has a circuit board it should have a reset/learn button so the board can sync with a remote - so if using same freq and code formula you could make it learn a new remote. But you will need to check the manual.

the control unit is sealed and has no way to get into it to change anything. I dont know about the controlers though. they may have a way to change codes. Thing is you wouldnt have to as they hook into the wires that go to your solonoid so you could just cut out the controler for the old remote and wire in this one.

The regular old Handheld Toggle switch Remote that came on my Warn winch failed due to water intergration into the funtionaly compartment.

I have decided to apply for an Obama Govt Grant of 10,000 to intergrate one of the new SOLAR alternitive energy switchs onto my ATV.

It is proposed to alevate the noxtious emmisions that conventional electric wenchs emit.

Cant wait to get it installed!

Remember to Vote O'Bamma and youll kn'O where you tax dollars will go.
