    Linotype

Brought home 250#s of linotype today. At 50 cents a pound I thought it was a good buy.

Good buy? You should be in handcuffs...because that was a steal! Good find!

    I thought so.
There's about that much left, I might get the rest of it.
I'm wondering if I ought to melt it all down into ingots for easier storage or just leave it.

If you are planning on selling some of it, I would leave it un-melted. Easier to determine what is it (for the buyer).

Oh, I don't know if I'd sell any, but I'd have to find something to store it all in.
It was in a wood crate at the yard, give or take around 500 #s of it and that much is kind of bulky to store as is.

Get metal 5 gallon buckets WITH LIDS ! They stack two to three high nicely.
Although I make ingots for my personal use it may be best to leave most of it in the buckets in letter form.
You can sell some for $1-$1.50 per pound and end up with a lot of FREE linotype !

You really did steal it at those prices. Quick, before they come to lock you up, get rid of the evidence, send it to me!

Don't believe I want to spend the money on metal buckets just to store some old lead I only spent 50 cents a # on.
Also don't feel like spending the time now to melt it down.
I have a bunch of heavy 20 gallon cattle supplement tubs, think I'll toss it all in one of them for now.

Where do you get used metal buckets with lids? Heck, where do you get new ones? My plastic ones are falling apart and you can forget picking them up by the handle as the sides are too brittle.

Really good price. I don't melt mine down, it's already in castable form so all you are doing is casting ingots for ingots sake. Just weigh the strips & add accordingly.

Yeah, I decided I didn't want to waste the propane melting it all down to pour ingots. Besides the time used to do it.

Guy who owns this scrap yard is great to do business with.
He makes his money off the big buyers.
For us small time purchasers he treats us all well.
Besides, he likes to hunt and fish, so a stop at his yard always means an extra hour sitting in the office BSing.
