Question Need custom breech seat mold for1885 Win 38-55

Just picked up my new Winchester 1885 38-55. Slugged and got .368 bore and .376 for groove, same as published specs. The twist is 1-15. I have two standard 250 grain molds, one Lyman and one Rapine. They are straight sided and very difficult to breech seat, even at 1-32 mix. I need a tapered bullet to breech seat with smokeless. Years ago Jerry Barnett produced one for my original Ballard #8 38-55, a true .38. I believe Jerry is no longer in business. Who in the world of custom makers would you recommend for this custom job?

Years ago I bought a couple of tapered sizing dies (no lubing) from a fellow by the name of Eagan ...I used the .30 cal one to taper a 200gr Lee boolit so it would feed thru a 7.62X39 Mini Mauser magazine...worked slick and was inexpensive....I can't find any contact info but he may still be advertizing in "THE FOULING SHOT" the Cast Bullet Assoc. publcation......

You can't beat Borton & Darr custom bullet moulds.

    walt,
If you go up to the Bullet Casting section and then the Molds section, there's a thread with a fairly good listing of custom mold makers with contact info.

Walt, if you are referring to the Jerry Barnett who lived in Emporia, Ks., he passed away some years back.

    Nrut,

Sadly, Donald Eagan passed away last year. The tooling, etc has been sold and no plans to make any more.

By far the most accurate mold for my 38/55 roller with 1/14" twist is the NEI # 180. Its a tepered pointed shallow groove design. I got it as a custom order for a customer and didnt care much for the pointed nose but as I said its turned out to be the best in my rifle. It seats so easily in breach seating ahead of the case. I hand lube each one as I load them. The grooves are much like the Lee tumble lube design. This is the one I use for match shooting and have used it to win a postal match right here at CB.
