Talk me into the BT one step .40 cal. die!

I just got my first 40 cal. Glock 27. I wanted a 9mm but oh well. Anyway, how do you all like your BT One Step Die?

don't have a 40,or the die.
but his 44 works right well, i have one of the first ones brian done and it has done a couple of thousand bullets so far.
it has also made a few hundred cast hollowpoints,changed the nose shape on a few hundred more.
made a bunch of 375's into 44 gas check flat points too.

Like RFR - I don't have a .40, but do use the One Step dies for a .44. Haven't had any issues with these dies and am getting pretty good accuracy out of a TC Contender. 2.5 inch 100 yd groups which would likely get smaller with better optics.

Get it. It works perfect and is super easy. I run these bullets in 4 different Glocks, and never had any issue. Even with the tighter Lone Wolf barrels they work great.

I have BOTh the .40 cal set and the 44 mag set from Brian. They BOTH work perfectly, and I have made many thousands of nice bullets with them.

The key to success with the .40 S&W is to use:

• Either 380 auto brass, or 9mm Luger brass trimmed down to 380 auto length (.680")
• A cast bullet core, preferably one in the 100-105 grain weight, which is also the size and weight for the 380 auto.
• The result will be a 165 grain Hollow Point, which is the ideal go-to bullet weight for the .40 S&W.

I use the load data from the Hornady book for 165 grain HP bullets (XTP)

I trim the length on the 9mm luger brass using a modified RCBS Trim Pro trimmer.

i have the one step but use the core seat die also.
like i said it's an early one.
brian, made the xtp jacket thingy [notch die?] by hand.
i can cut the jacket to preprogram the opening of the bullet and still flat nose them.
so he ain't getting it back

Duke, what would you come up with if you did not trim the 9mm case? I am wondering if I am only shooting for fun, targets.

I used untrimmed, deprimed brass and a 105 core and got 165's. They were also the best looking bullets. The only down side was that my 105 mold was for Makarov so I had to down the cores before seating them. Also, it was a 2 hole mold instead of 6.

If you notice khamill2000's image, you will see some brass that comes past the top of the lead in the nose of his bullets. My trimming eliminates that brass sticking out. When you're making hollow points, you want the nose to expand outwards. If you leave that brass exposed, and the brass gets pushed inwards, it will captivate the lead, and keep the nose from expanding. At least that is what I am expecting. Haven't tested my theory.

By trimming, or just using 380 auto brass, it eliminates that brass stick out. My lead cores, after swaging, go right to the tip of the nose.

My best friend just bought a sub compact 380 auto pistol, and so I am supplying him with reloading brass. At some point, he will have enough, and I can then just start using that brass, instead of trimming,.

Perfectly! Every time, all the time. Running them through a 3rd gen Glock 23, 3rd gen Glock 22, 4th gen Glock 22, 3rd gen Glock 20 (10mm) and a Ruger P91. The 3rd gen 22 and 23 also run Lone Wolf barrels and still work perfectly.

I need me one of them lone wolf barrels to shoot 9mm through my G27. Everyone seems to be sold out.

Anyway. Once I get some cash I do think that one of these dies are on my list. I was sold on them anyway. Just wanted to hear what everyone that has one thought of it.

I was making the 40's before I even had a gun to shoot them in. When I discovered just how easy it was I bough a 40 S&W pistol and didn't look back.

The 40 cal bullets made from 9mm brass is by far my favorite bullet to make and shoot. It is incredibly easy, and by far the cheapest, to make and shoot of any bullet. One stroke in the press and you have a perfect 180 grain bullet that rivals anything available on the market. Load it up with as little as 5 grains of powder and you are shooting 40 S&W cheaper then 22LR! This is the swage die I recommend to everyone and anyone that is just getting into swaging. For very little intial investment you will be shooting your own bullets in the least amount of time with the least amount of effort.

I just put the final touches on a dozen of my improved CH 40 cal one step dies. If you are looking for one of my BTSniper custom 40 cal dies I have severial of those to offer as well.

I now offer the one step die with my universal die and expanding/case prep mandrel as standard issue. I feel this universal die and mandrel is necessary to achieve the best results and as such I now offer them as a set. Should you not wish to purchase this addition universal die and expanding mandrel remove $75 from total bill.

Just curious .... would a Lee Classic Cast turret , the cast iron machine work with this set up ?

I wouldn't do it to much flex in the turret (I have same turret press). There is to much pressure required to form the bullet for any turret press. Get a good cast single stage press and have it.
