    45acp with gas check

Is there a hand gun mold that casts for a gas check?
Or is there a need to use gas checks?

    Curious

Would think not necessary. Not high enough intensity cartridge. Gas checks are for magnum handgun / typical (medium to full house) rifle pressure loads. Typical 45acp loads are not at this level.

Lyman's 452630. Though, as already mentioned, I don't see the why of it.

It would be a waste of a gas check in a 45acp.

    Hey Joe:
The 452484 mould is the 452374 cut for a gas check.
The latter 452374 mould is the hardball cast equivelant to what John Browning designed for
his 1911 45 acp in FMJ.
As already stated by Jeffrey, the gas check is not needed for the 45 acp cartridge.

Interesting! My 452630 is not cut for a check, but rather has a slight bevel base. Great bullet though. My P220's love it.
There is some ammo and more ammo. There is never enough ammo!

I could have used a gas check in my 45acp. Had an 18" Contender barrel that would get the 200gr SWC up to pretty good speed.

Looking at Ol' Buffalo's chart, it's difficult to determine if the base is beveled or gas check shanked. Apologies for the misinfromation.

Gas checks are not necessary at even magnum handgun velocities, IME.

Good design, good lube and good fit with any reasonable alloy will produce accurate
loads that do not lead without (as Elmer called 'em) "diapers" on the boolits.

If it was easy, anybody could do it.

Thanks for the information. I didnt think one was needed but I thought I would ask for my own education.
