    Target Shooting

Can anyone suggest books or videos about small-bore target shooting? I don't know that I would ever compete, but I'd like to know the official rules so in the event I really enjoy it, I'll already have the basics. So far, I've been unable to find much information. Found a few websites, but all they seem talk about is matches that they have had or that are upcoming.

Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.

Contact the NRA. I believe they can help you out.
The solid soft lead bullet is undoubtably the best and most satisfactory expanding bullet that has ever been designed. It invariably mushrooms perfectly, and never breaks up. With the metal base that is essential for velocities of 2000 f.s. and upwards to protect the naked base, these metal-based soft lead bullets are splendid.

Forget everything you know about loading jacketed bullets. This is a whole new ball game!

    greg ,
I am assuming you are looking for info on .22 - 3 position target matchs. You might also want to check out the rules book for matchs for .22 Silhouette. These are fun offhand matchs and allow for the use of almost any .22 rifle. Knock down targets out to 100 yds. Some clubs take these matchs very seriously too. Just to me the fun factor of a knock down is more than that of shooting paper.

    Just my thoughts .... Pete

Thanks for the suggestion Pete. I'll look into Silhouette shooting as well.

There are patterns and even people that sell .22 silhouettes. I've shot some formal matches and it's fun. Even if I get beat, I still like shooting a scoped .22 at steel targets that ring and then fall to the ground. The sound and action is a little like modern-day video games.

I mapquested your home town. You are a stones throw from Conover N.C.. Make contact with the guys at the Catawba Rifle and Pistol Club there. The gentlemen that host the silhouette matches also hold a monthly tactical .22 rifle match. They shoot from about 25 yards to 200 yards with .22 rifles. I sent you a pm with their email address.
