Not qualified because not in the past year, but the 405 Win. did a good, one shot job on a 200+lb boar.

C'mon Jeff, don't keep us in suspenders. Tell us more!

(I wish I had a story to add with my pig gun in 303 Brit with a 205gr paper patched boolit but alas .... )

I guess we'll have to revive this thread @ a later time, Lefty. Have lost count with the 30-06, had one...oops, two bagged years ago with a Contender in .35 Rem and last 3 have been with a 45-70-but all w/ J-bullets. But I'm trying to do better, honest!

I was on the hogs on some land but it was archery only, since then the hogs have been killed/trapped out. I've had to move to a new location (100,000 acres of rugged land) and had to start ALL OVER from square one. Good news is I have located 1 spot that looks like it holds some BIG dominant boar hogs! Can't wait to see!

    Let me clarify:

Anything coming out of the barrel that proved to be lethal qualifies.

That being said, it's past my bed time and there are too many posts to go through tonight.

But we are almost to the weekend!

are these small pigs or neck shots i've read the .223 was not enuff gun for larger pigs , what is your point of aim with lighter , smaller boolits i want to pig hunt , not good enuff with my 454 casull revolver (no scope ) and my surplus rifles are too dang heavy , i want a quick follow up but that would have to be my unissued sks yugo , maybe i could trade it off for a nice russian sks, a little lighter no grenade launcher on the russian , or that is another post

Being young, i do the best i can to learn from my elders, i met a chap who has been pig hunting for more than 30 years, using nothing more than a pair of pig dogs and a sticking knife. Swore that it was the best way to take on pigs.

Personally, i prefer to keep a bit of distance between me and them and use a big chunk 'o lead

First pig was a .45-70 Guide Gun i borrowed from a friend (This is the rifle that got me into wanting a 45-70 so badly) i was also incredibly surprised just how quickly and how efficiently .303 british dropped running pigs in their tracks. For such a big lump of rolling meat & tusks, you wouldnt think a little old .303 would do a hell of a lot.. maybe thats why they were so popular as NZ bush guns
