Lee push through die instructions please.

    Good morning everyone,

I am sorry if this information is here in the forums but I didn't find it. I have not gone to the Lee website to download the instruction manual either, I just thought of that now. In any case I have a multi part question to ask.

I purchased 2 different push through sizing dies from the swapping and selling forum here a few months ago. Having never used them, I would like some experienced persons' points of view how to use them. Also, what does a person use in the ram to push the boolits through? I don't have this piece.

    Thanks for your time.

The push through sizer die comes with a sizer punch that inserts into the ram. This pushes the bullet through the die. Replacements can be ordered from Lee for a few dollars.

Bullets are lubed and then pushed through the die. The kit from Lee comes with liquid Alox. You tumble the bullets in this stuff to get them lubed. You can also use sizing wax or similar stuff. The bullets once sized, need to be lubed again somehow for shooting.

You need to contact the seller and ask for this piece. You didn't get what you paid for.

    Happy New Year.

You might want to look through your sizing die. If you can't look completely thru it that means that the punch has been inserted into the die. Just pull it out and install the punch on your press ram. The die then goes into the press and you put boolits on top of the punch and push the boolit thru the die. The red plastic with the hole in it sits on top of the die and the red cover is placed on the bottom piece. The plastic will catch the boolits as they are pushed through. For pistol boolits it takes about 3 to 4 before they start dropping into the plastic catcher and for rifle boolits it usually only takes 2 to 3 before they start dropping. The die is hollow and contains the sizer ring of the appropriate size. If you need photos of it installed in a press, pm (private message) me and I'll post some pics for you. Thanks. BC

Below is a photo of what you should have. This is how it comes from Lee, minus the bottle of LLA.

The red plastic piece on the left is the top. The red plastic piece on the right is the bottom. It sets on the die when it's screwed in the press and catches the boolits as they come out the top. The metal piece on the left is the sizer die body. It screws in the press. The metal piece on the right is the piston. It snaps in the ram and pushes the boolits through the sizer die body.

If you didn't get all these pieces, you got shorted.

HERE is a link to the instructions.

    +1 here

AND These dies are a real pain to use without that red plastic container to catch the bullets.

Don't get me wrong. These dies are GREAT. I have nearly retired my Lyman 4500 since I started using them but you do need all the parts.

If you can't get the piece from the guy, it's not the end of the world LOL. That's the economic beauty of Lee reloading tools. They are inexpensive.

It is kind of neat to see a stack of flat nosed boolits come up out of the die and reach to the top of the container.

Okay, sometimes I'm easily amused. It still works very well.

I have the directions but am unable to download them small enough for this sight. Send me your email and I will send you the .pdf.

These are the directions for the push through sizing lubricating die sets that have been obsolete for several years. You used a mallet to push the bullet through the die after you lubed in a pan.

    Wink

I just catch the boolits as they come out of the push through sizer, then back into the empty ammo trays from the range. Never have tried the red catcher, figured it was just one more thing to get covered in mule snot.

Yeah.... I sometimes become so amused by the rising stack of boolits that I try to run through just one more through before the stack lifts the top part of the container enough to separate it from the bottom part and cause the contents of the container to cascade onto the floor, with many of the liberated boolits rolling or bouncing into the most inaccessable spots in my reloading room. Occasionally I miscalculate. Immediately, I'm distinctly unamused.

Especially small springs or pins you had to wait 2 weeks to get.

    Buckshot, You crack me up!

Some around here somebody suggested using the Lee hand press UP ↑ side DOWN ↓ to size boolits.
Since mine is mounted to a bench/table clamp, I grabbed on to that like a dog on meat.
    MUCH easier for me!
When the handle is raised, I just set the boolits nose in the die. Then bring the punch down and push the boolit in.
The one that's hanging in the die drops out the top (which is now the bottom), and right into a shot bag.
That little trick really made things a lot easier in my little world.

That is a great idea, will use it when not really having to bring them down several thou. Someone should pass that on to Lee, they would probably sell a few more hand presses.

Just for the whale of it I contacted Lee and gave them your above post in toto as it kinda says it all and it is a great idea.

Concur, Buckshot... in fact, I postulate that the ease and speed with which an item will disappear into the spacewarp is directly proportionate to the cost of or difficulty incurred in replacing the object . I worry that the beings on the other side of the spacewarp will become so infuriated by their constantly being peppered by objects that emerge at their side after I drop them in at my side that they'll retaliate by lobbing in a chunk of antimatter on their side.

I wouldn't worry so much about the anti-matter.
I'd be more concerned about them tossing fecal matter.

    Hey Sonnypie.

As I said in earlier post, someone should pass that idea on to Lee.

I did so and here is their Reply.

    Mr. Chambers,

I guess you can teach a old dog new tricks, very nice! There is a clever bunch of people on Cast Boolits. I take care of the design of custom "boolit" molds and new product development here at Lee Precision, so "boolit" casting is near and dear to my heart.
