    .30M1 and hunting powder

    Hello to all.
Have someone used hunting powder to load the .30M1 carbine with a 110 grs cast boolit?
    With what doses?
    And wirg what results?
    Thanks in advance

If your cast bullet is GC'd then H110 or 296 are very good powders. It's what I use. Work up to 14 gr with that 110 gr cast bullet. H or IMR4227 is also a very good powder to use. Work up to the same 14 gr.

    do you fiber fill??
the H 110 seems to be best compressed , 2400 works no matter what

No filler at all but that is pretty much a 100% loading density. I use the 313631 105 gr SWC and the 311316 118 gr FP cast bullets with that load.

havent tried 110 in a 30 but know it dont work good in a 44 or 45 colt as if you hold gun UP each time it is ok , but if you come up it does make a difference. i think the 296 is about the same but never used it
I use it for the 410/ 444mag case loaded for the 410 and like it

Larry's advice on the loading follows what I have found for my M-1 carbines with cast or jacketed.
The CMP recommended load of 15grs is too hot for the heat we have in Arizona.

You are not supposed to use reduced loads of H110 or 296. Doing so causes the problems you mention and other more serious problems. Most loading manuals and the Hodgdon and Winchester advise to not use reduced loads with those powders below their listed starting loads. Must be a reason, eh? FYI.

And that lack of flexibility is the reason I don't use H110/W296. I have found that 2400 and IMR4227 cover anything that H110/W296 might be used for.

For hunting I would use the highest velocity with reasonable accuracy. I use 11.5gr of 2400 for accuracy with the lee soupcan, lee 309120r and and out of production lee 309130r. If I use the lyman 311410 PB I have to reduce the load to 10.5 gr to keep a reasonable group. You could increase this some (12.5 gr) for hunting and still have a reasonable group with the GC boolits..

14.5 gr H110 and 110gr. bullet is an awesome combo in my M1 Carbine and have shot it in my buddy's blackhawk with good accuracy.

    Smile

I use 12 and 13 (mostly) gr H4227 with my 120 grain 311 359 GC in my Carbines. Functions well and gives good accuracy.

Larry, how does that 311 316 feed in your Carbine? I've not tried it because of the FN.

I just love shooting that little Carbine.
