Well I took the 55gr Lyman load out to 100 yards today. I changed the target as I wanted to make sure I got all ten shots on paper. There was a good wind coming from about 1 o'clock at 15-20 mph so I'm sure that opened the group up some. Hold point was about 1.5" high of center as I'm not going to change my zero for these loads. I was right bumping the load to 18.7gr gave me perfect function an lock back after last round! To say the least I'm most please that I now have a totally fucntional lead load for my carbine.

i'm not sure if the holes are caused by the target not being tight to the backer or if they are oblong because of tipping, or instability.
i would weight sort my boolits and try the shooting again though.

I'd say my box is getting worn to which it was taped too! Going to need to replace my target holder!

Have any of ya'll shot Ranch Dogs 22 boolit in an AR yet? I have been considering getting that mold for my hornet and was wondering if it would work in the ar as well.

Nope but I've tried Beartooth cast. Good bullets. They shot fair out of my Carbine, better out of my Sav Hunter 11.

Here's a little different take on cast boolits out of an AR. Now if I can just cure the flyers, I'll be all set. Buy the way, these weigh in at 300 grains and I'm running them between 1,800 and 2,150 fps.

Well I put these over the chrony today. 16" DPMS

Average Vel: 1792 fps ES 88 SD 44

I'm thinking of trying a slight crimp on these to maybe to get a better ES/SD.

    OFF TOPIC

What is ES/SD? Can you explain these or direct to a thread?
    Thanks
    Roger

    Roger,

ES is extreme spread the difference between the fastest and slowest
SD is standard deviation is a statistical calculation

The smaller these numbers are the more uniform the shots will be.

    Gunnut,

you may want to try a 1/4 grain of fluffed Dacron filler it may help

Maybe! I think the cold is messing with the load as well it was 35 degrees out when I shot. I did get better accuracy at 18.5 but it was right on the edge of functioning the action- again cold when shot. I don't like to crimp cast but it does help with powder burn- atleast with my larger caliber loads. When I started crimping my 30-30 and '06 loads the ES/SD dropped a good measure! But I'm lary to crimp these little 22's!

Which Lyman 55gr mold are you using? I've shot a few thousand 225646 bullets out of my ar, and no matter what I do with this bullet I get flyers...

Mine is the 2660646 mold. As been said before with these little 22's you can't have any defects in them as they are magniied ten fold. I have about a 50% reject rate when casting. Then I weight them before loading to with in .3 gr +/-. And try to keep the OAL within .002" . Consistancy is the key.

Done all that, still get a lot of flyers. 225462 seems to shoot a whole lot better, maybe its just what my rifle likes?

Well I loaded up the next group- 5 with slight crimp, 5 with filler. Wind is blowing mock 90 today so when it calms down I'll get out and through over the chrony and see what we get.

Can you provide a link to that potential Group Buy mold?
    Thanks
