    "RUGER ONLY" torture tested

Ran some of the "RUGER ONLY" cast Penta HP's out of my 1894 Marlin in 45 Colt this Monday.

    Average velocity was 1546fps.
Load was 24.0gr of 296, virgin Starline case and a CCI 350 primer.

Today I went to the range again but this time with my son.
The above load was shot into wet catalog books at a measured 25 yards.
Recovered weights went from a low of 103gr to a high of 112gr.
My average weight for this boolit was 313gr.
Average recovery depth was 9" of the wet catalogs.

Here are pictures of the results.

These were cast from straight wheel weights.
Going to try some 50/50 and see if the will hold together better.

Catalogs are pretty tough stuff! For S&G's try some very lightly stacked wet newsprint.

    Marlin

How do you get them to cycle through your Marlin. Too long for me.

    Thanks

    Single shot mode currently.
Talked with Dave Clements of Clement's Custom.
It can be made to cycle just needs work done.
Price tag is under a hundred so it's getting done after the holidays.

Getting the exact same results when cast from a 50/50 alloy.
Even tried a lighter load of 18.0gr of 2400.
Will admit that the devastation to the wet pack was impressive to say the least.
Wonder if they will actually hold together when used on game?

You should find that game is less destructive to boolits. I test in wet clay as it retains the temporary expansion cavities and is cheap. I figure I get twice the penetration in an animal as I get in clay.

If you take a 1" thick water soaked phone book, and put a full gallon jug of water behind it, then another 1" soaked book behind the jug, you'll get a pretty accurate idea of what this boolit will do in game. I've tested this numerous times and it has proven to be a very accurate gauge of boolit performance on Deer sized game.
I'll be a nice to you as you'll let me be, or as mean as you make me be.
