    .700 ***, from scratch

It is now time to post this here as im coming to a close on the project. First off about the round, its call the 700 ***. it got its name from the members here. i posted a pic of the round in chat and the first response was "***" so it stuck. the case is made by fire forming 50 bmg brass to the chamber and then trimming to 3" long. then press it into a neck sizer and seat a .700 cal 1132gr cast paper patch boolit. according to my numbers this gun with its 16.25" barrel will push that 1132gr boolit to over 2000fps and up to around 2300fps. The gun is made by me from scratch and weighs in at 15lbs. its a single shot with a shell holder bolt. the optic is an Aimpoint comp M4 and handles the recoil like a champ. the grip is a magpull grip made for an AR and the recoil pad is a limb saver. so enough talk here are the pictures.

here is a picture of a loaded round

here is an overall picture of the gun and some ammo

The scope rail that i had on the run would not handle the recoil and was smashing agenst the lug on the scope base. so i had to rethink how to attach the scope. and this is what i made to solve the problem.

and last nite i got her all painted up and she is ready to go stalk some antelope now

And i took it with me to BBPDS last weekend and we all had fun shooting it. these where semi mild loads as this thing can be loaded up real nasty. here is a compiled video i did of the shooting.

    Fascinating and very nice build.

    Where'd the barrell come from?

good eye, there was problems extraction cases. but this was not from firing it was from the parrent brass. most of my cases where made form once fired 50 bmg brass and the base of case was larger then my chamber and you could chamber the round but apon extraction it would stick. but the cases i made by fire forming new 50bmg would function perfect.

I don't know what kind of paperwork you have on that little honey, but I seem to remember something in the ATF rules that identified anything over .50 cal as being artillery or a destructive device or something like that. Shot guns shooting slugs got a special dispensation from that rule somehow, but I don't think that yours would qualify in the same way. You might want to look that up.

it does. If its a sporting round its legal. its in the same class as the 700 nitro express. but yes normally anything over .5 is considered a destructive device.

You may have to invest in a small-base .50BMG sizing die (if such an animal exists) to bring the base back into spec before fire-forming. I have the same issues shooting .308 Winchester cases from a semi-auto in a bolt-gun.

However, if the brass you got is one-off, I wouldn't worry about it.

I dare you to shoot it without the muzzle-brake.

I seem to recall watching a video of a guy shooting a short barreled 50 BMG with no compensator present.

The recoil was such that it caused the hair-piece he was wearing to flop loose. That was one embarrassed bald-headed guy.

I like the way it looks with the camo-job; really tough looking gun.

If you were to take that bad-boy to one of the Texas Hog Hunting camps and set yourself up around a feeder or watering hole, I bet you could take out about three or four hogs with one shot if they were lined up just right.

That would be a video that would instantly go viral.

If there were no hogs around he could always go kill a whale or shoot down a forest.

    Beautiful job.
