.44 Mag for Deer and Pigs

I'm looking at a new Ruger 77/44 bolt gun, 1:20" twist. I will be using it for deer and possibly some pig hunting and of course paper punching. What cast boolit have you had the best results with? Anyone with any experiences with the above rifle? Good or bad.

Break in the gun with high antimony, low tin, lead, say the first 500 rounds anyway.; The barrels are hard and tough and unless correct from the start they will not shoot better than 2.0-2.5 inches at a hunnert. The barrels typically need to be burnished in to shoot 1.5 inch groups. Maximum extension beyond the crimp groove should be no more than .310 inches. ... felix

Had one, and it shot ok, but traded it off for a Marlin. It shot best with the Lee 310GC over 2400 cast about 16-18 BH. Drops like a rock over 100, but up to 100 it is excellent.

My Marlin does it's best with 429244 but, the Lee 310 GC delivers pretty good accuracy at 100 although stability is an issue at that range. H-110 and WC-820 are the powders I use. My Grandson bloodied it on a nice 6 point using the 429244 and as always, when a .44 goes through the lungs, the hunt ends and work begins.

429244 was my first .44 mold. I have aquired 429215 also. Just loaded up some 250 gr LBT WFNGC with H110. I also shoot the Marlin.

The .44 is great but your limit to boolits will be the rotary magazine. The Lee 310 should fit, I don't know.

    HI,
44 MAG. has killed several deer for me with 1 shot.
Have read many times that it works fine on pigs too, I just have never had the chance.
BUT I WOULD LOVE TO TRY.

You could also try a Ranch dog mold. I have just started casting this boolit and so far it shoot well enough but I have yet to shoot any thing with it.

The one I have is a 265 grain mold.

I have a R77 in 44mag. I really like it! I'm still working on a load for it. Here are some of the results I have.

I have found that MOST of my 44mag load will NOT work in the rotary mag.

    Here are some target pics.

The one that I did test that I don't remember how it shot was the RD version 44mag HP.

I do remember it was very devistating on water jugs and worth testing later.
