Hi guys. The bullet below, has proven to be the most accurate in one of my rifles. Problem is, someone sent it to me, and I don't know the designation. .358, weight around 264 gr.
If you know what it is, I would appreciate it. If you have one of these molds for sale, consider it sold. Also have a 250 gr. four hole Saeco, I may consider trading for this mold.
Looks like RCBS 35-250-SP.
Those molds can be had through Midway on a special order basis. Can you put a caliper on it and spec it for us?

Basically any 180 grainer is good..so far
In my experience it is hard to find any boolit from 170 to 200 grains that will NOT shoot well in my encore, when I find the sweet spot.... I have had the best luck so far with the Lee-c-358-180 group buy I ran recently, and the Rcbs 35-180 sillwet boolit...the N.E.I 358-180 swc-gc looks promising also, i have just begun to play with that....I like a stiff charge of H-LilGun, Vhitovouri N-120, or H-4227 the best....remington 7.5 primers also seem to be "thee" primer for my weapon anyhow...
AA1680 works well if you are not after the utmost possible FPS...big fireball in the dusk/dawn hours though....
I trust my hunting loads to 18-20 grains H4227 or a warm load of Vhit N-120
50% wheelweight 50% pure lead waterquenched and aged for a week = 21-22 BHN, and they put deer down...
I would not/have not/will not shoot a boolit lighter than 150 grains through my encore...the heavies work so good and I know they shoot well, and are killers on 140 to 160 pound whitetail...even at 142 paces....why mess with success..
I use a plain based Mountain Molds 180 grainer when I get below 1.6K and it works great also...I have tried to push em harder and have succeeded,,,,,,,,,for quite a few shots,..... then it gets eratic/iffy after 1.7 to 1.8 K
Side note...in case you get too busy to cast...God forbid it....I also have used a bunch of those remington 180 grain JHP bulk J-words...they shoot like a house afire, and are damn accurate if you happen to get behind on your casting...just about any warmish book load works on them...they were one of the dummy rounds I sent when I had my barrel made...look a little too lightly built for hunting, but punch steel and paper well. They are a nightmare to pull with the quinetics puller, the jacket stays and the core comes free...don't make an oops with these if you can help it....

I'm pretty sure I sent those boolits up your way for you to try in your .358. The mould is an RCBS 35-250-SP as noted in an earllier post. That boolit does shoot very well in my BLR .358.

Thanks for the confirmation. I knew there were three of you sent me bullets to try out, but my record keeping leaves, ah, well, something to be desired. I'll try to locate a mold for it, if not, will order one from Midway.
It is the RCBS boolit as I have one sitting in front of me from Jim Wisener.

Midway took a picture of the wrong mold. I'm not sure what they took a photo of to depict 35-250-SP, but it sure the heck ain't 35-250-SP.

maybe the one I have, the same bullet in a 200gr version. One of the best 35 Rem or 358 bullets out there.

That mould has been special order for at least 10 years. Son't get your shorts in a knot yet, but I most likely will sell mine as I've pretty much settled on the 35-200 for my .358. The .35-200 has a larger meplat than the 35-250 and is the better hunting boolit IMHO. The 35-200 comes in at ~213 gr. (ww + 2%) and I can push it to 2400+ with no leading and reasonable accuracy. Last time hunting with it, I smacked a moosey. The critter went from standing to on the ground so fast I didn't see it happen in the scope! If it will put a critter that is notoriously famous for being "shock proof" on the ground that fast, fluke shot or no, I don't think I need a heavier boolit. Pilgrim
Waksupi: I ordered my #35-250-SP direct from RCBS about four years ago. It cost something like $125.00, give or take including the shipping. That was just as much as the custom David Mos copy of the #3589 mold a group of us special ordered. It does cast a nice boolit though.
While I have some boolits cast up, I haven't shot them yet. As soon as I round up enough cash, I'm having a Ruger #1 in 30-06 rebarreled to .35 Whelen to be my serious hunting rifle using those above mentioned boolits.
Pilgrim: Your .358 Win. load sounds interesting. Might I impose on you for the data? I have that 200 gr. RCBS mold but as in my post to Waksupi, lack of time and wanting to play in way too many projects has kept me from getting started, something which will change after the firt of the year. I will be starting the New Year off right.

If you are serious about letting go of the RCBS 35-250 SPFP, Please keep me in mind. I have been looking for one for about 10-12 years. I tried to get one from Mountain Molds and got put on the back burner 2 years ago. Must have awful busy for my business. Oh well, let me know if you decide to sell that mold, thanks.

My .358 BLR load (Douglas 22" barrel), is 44 gr. VV N135, Alcan Maxfire primer, bullet cast of WW + 2% 95/5 solder + 10% Magnum shot, air cooled, lubed and GC applied in a .360 sizer, LBT Blue lube, Hornady GC's. This load chronographs 2430 fps out of my rifle, with about 1.5" accuracy @ 100 yds. benchrest (5X scope)
I suspect you can use pretty much any primer. I have some old old Alcans that I use for giggles once in a while and this was one of those "whiles". Since it shot so well at that velocity, I decided not to screw with it as I have another 1500 or so of those left to use up. FWIW...Pilgrim
